I went to the local Mahindra dealer today and was informed that the new Scorpio will be available for TD from 27th September after the launch on 26th. The dealer could not confirm if 4WD will be available on the LX version.

4wd is available BlackPearl. Dealers in Bangalore are taking bookings for it as well. It is available in S4(LX) and S10(VLX) variants.

The front looks ok. The rear is ugly.

Thanks Starter for the confirmation. I do not know why these showroom representatives are not educated before any launch. Instead of giving details they will start asking why I need 4 WD. At least that was the case 3 years back, maybe things have changed specially with so many Thars getting sold.

I think that is because the base 4WD version is only made to order... Even if they accept bookings they can't commit to the Date of Delivery (DoD). Luckily I was able to get a 90k discount when I booked one of the last 4WD LX in NCR in July...😃

I guess a correction face lift might need to soon follow. There is noting bad with a radical design, it creates a new feeling of being a different car than its earlier generations were. The sheet metal work surely will make it stand out in in the crowd. Scorpio unlike the bolero is a car that sells from the metros until the villages, imagine the feeling the local village headman will have when he/she parks the new one below the peepal tree that doubles up as the local scuttlebutt. For the new looks the should have a had a slightly lower profile I guess 4 - 6 inches shorter, that would have made is really look like a distant cousin of the JEEP (which I guess it draws some inspiration from!). Basic timeless colors Black, White and Red can only make justice, the rest will look a bit off. The change in the mechanics is what will make this a seller in the cities. The lesser it feels like the boat the better. The Duster and this, a close call now.

I probably will change my initial stand a bit. I feel the front would still look good in real and not bad as I initially thought. Also interior is looking surely better the current version. But the question would remain if the fit and finish of the interior would be up to mark of a modern car.
But for the rear, I just hope that they change few things there, specially those grab handles and the color theme of the tail lights. With those changes it might be a decent looking car. But let's wait till they unveil it today, it might look better in real life than in pics.

No Tini, the sales advisor here confirmed that S4 does not have ABS.
