If VW group is alive today, its only due to one thing - the MQB. There's no point in giving a gearbox that shifts milliseconds quicker than a manual unless the darn thing works. I'd rather have one that takes its own sweet time to shift than one that could probably leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Instead of acknowledging that there is a problem, you blame tropical climate conditions.

Another recall, this time in Malaysia. Guess we are really low on the pecking list!

Wonder why no recall in India. I think a recall would now be taken more positively than ignoring an apparent problem. VW should have tested the GB in Asia more than Europe. The real surprise is that even in EU issues are reported.

From all that I have read, VW India has not made any official statement. It will be great if the Mods / Team BHP can get an official statement from VW.

Secondly, if the recall is done to replace the unit, then would it mean that the replaced units are now more reliable?

VW India has not sold any DQ 200 DSG equipped cars to date (before the POLO GT) - the only DQ 200 equipped product until recently was the Superb 1.8 TSi DSG, and I doubt Skoda India is going to give any kind of official reaction.

The Singapore article I quoted earlier (on the Polo TSi thread) claims that VW now understands the root cause of the failures and the revised mechatronics addresses this issue. A number of Team BHPians suffered mechatronics failures about 12 - 18 months ago - wonder how their cars are doing and if anyone suffered problems with replaced units? But I guess it will be another 12-18 months before we know if these fixes work.

I remember some 15 ~ 18 months ago there were a lot of reported failures of the 7 speed DSG box on petrol Superbs. Such failure reports are a rarity these days. Which could mean that the replaced mechatronic units are working fine and new cars with updated mechatronics/ softwares are also more reliable.

Back in 2009-10, due to the unreliable nature of the 7 speed DSG, VW very specifically avoided equipping the Passat 1.8 TSI with the DSG gear box and sold the car with an MT only option. The same company is now bold enough to pair it with their best selling car in India. Think they've sorted out the issues?

Is the 7 speed automatic offered on the SKODA Laura TSI the same fault prone DSG that is being referred to in this thread ?

Yes - The 7 speed DSG used in the petrol is deemed to be more faulty in general, though then 6 speed DSG used in the diesel too has met failures.

I presume the same gear box is share in the recently released Polo TSI too. Looking at the worldwide recalls , it seems to be an irresponsible move from VW to put this in the Polo.

Well that will get some attention for sure in Australia. In our media, such a report will never pop-up. They really dont want themselves to be in the bad books of the german giant.
Also lack of a central authority in India for checking these things makes matters much better. Even better for VW is, when somebody sues them. The standard answer will be "matter is subjudice and hence we wont answer". Drag it for 10 years and problem solved.:Frustrati

One needs to be a little careful here, the article leads you to believe (especially if you start with the video) that the incident was related to DSG issues. The lady who died was driving a manual VW Golf - that detail comes lower down.

Need to look at the larger context. The unfortunate accident was the trigger for many VW owners to come out open questioning the reliability of their cars (many with DSG issues).

The Australian affiliate of German automaker Volkswagen Group was warned of a possible class action today by motorists unhappy with its response to complaints that some cars decelerate without warning.

Saunders & Saunders Legal spokesman Brett Sanders said the firm was “currently investigating a potential class action” but would not say how many had come forward to join in any court case.
