Re: Legal Alternatives to Sun Film

Guys
Is there any particular technique to be followed to fix the suction cup based sun shades ? i have bought one set from the traffic signal vendors and one online at snapdeal but both of them just fall off within a minute of fixing it in the window ? am i doing something wrong or is it just poor quality ? if its the latter, can one get good quality suction cups separately somewhere ?

I faced the same situation as yours. I removed the suction caps. Instead i rolled down the window panes and inserted the sun shade in the gap between the window pane and door. Then i rolled up the window pane.

The drawback what i can think of is if one wants to enjoy fresh air instead of the a/c, then rolling down the panes is not possible as the sun shade will fall off.

There is no technique as such. Just press the suction cup on the glass.

While removing, you should pull on the small dot provided near the edge of the suction cup, instead of trying to pull out the suction cup from the center.

These suction cups sometimes get a bit deformed during storage or shipping. But they generally come back to their original shape after a while.

Also check if it is not sticking because of dust. The glass and suction cup should be dust free for a good grip.

I purchased a set from an accessories store, it has a nice grip.

Try putting in a drop or two of water inside the suction cup before you fix it on windshield.
I have tried this and the shades will remain longer.

Apart from that, you can try the static sun shades, these stay on longer and will stay on the glass even when the window is down. I am using them in my car since past two months and they have stayed on since I fixed them.
You can get them from ebay, here's the link.

I still see lot of car's on Bangalore road with Dark Tinted glasses. I feel like an Idiot who removed expensive Gare ware shades in this hot summer weather!

Yes, there IS a technique to make them stick better / forever. Just apply 1 thin layer of coconut oil (Parachute hair oil) to the inner side of suction cup and fix it. It will never fall off. Try it and let me know how it went. :-).

Here you go.
I was on travel for the past two days and haven't had the chance to click the pics.
Excuse the dirty windows.
I have used only four of the eight shades I have received.
Two on the rear windshield and one each on the rear door windows.

Wouldn't this also be deemed illegal and fined? I thought anything that is stuck to the glass and hindering visibility can be flagged down.

BTW, am I seeing a fake TBHP sticker in the last pic?

According to the cops in Bangalore, anything on the window panes be it sunshade /sun film is illegal. I inserted the sun shades into the gap between the car door and window pane and was caught by the cops and fined for the same

Re: Legal Alternatives to Sun Film

I got my sun fillms removed, but let the one on the rear shield remain.
Got it done by 3M guys at Hyderabad. The owner said that its not advisable to remove the rear film, because he'll have to use a blade to remove the glue & this might mess with the defogger lines.

Any BHPians with the same problem?
What did you guys do?

I haven't had any issue with the cops so far. Have been using it since the past couple of months now. It can be removed very easily and reused again.

I got that Team-Bhp sticker way back in 2007 during a Bhp meet. I like this small one.
