Great effort Jessie! Rating the thread 5*s.

Why is Bolero missed out? Also, please share the excel sheet you prepared as it will help many Bhpians in here.

re: Compared! MUVs & SUVs from the 7 - 14 lakh price range

Thanks Jessie. Is it possible to assign a rank to each vehicle and parameter combination? The vehicle with the lowest sum of ranks can be the "winner". Ofcourse, it will be a paper exercise since some parameters (say fuel efficiency and space) are more important than others (say cup holders). Nevertheless even these factors can be incorporated using a weight system.

That's some effort you have put in to keep all at one corner. Appreciate it!

IIRC, XYLO was not launched in 2005, it was in either 2007/2008. May be we can check and have the correct details.

Thanks. Bolero is a hardy veicle but not really in the league of the vehicles in this comparison. It is a relatively basic vehicle and also priced accordingly which is quite less than the price band being considered in this comparison, even for the top-end model which retails for around Rs.7 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.

Yes one can do that but the thing is that if we take it objectively then the points assigned for a set of features may not be really commensurate with the utility of that feature which will tend to vary from person to person.

Noted. Xylo was actually launched in 2009. I actually checked in Wikipedia - although the production / launch date is mentioned correctly in the main article, on the right hand side summary box it says 2005 for some reason.

UPDATE (23Jul'12)

Have incorporated all changes in the Excel sheets, as per the feedback received from fellow BHPians

Well, any praise should be an understatement considering the amount of data available at hand.
Infact the quantum of specifications just blows away ones mind.
Terrific job, Jessie007.
Just a bit of correction regarding the Renault Duster.

Max Power : PS @ rpm 110 PS @ 3900 rpm
Max Torque : Nm @ rpm 248 Nm @ 2250 rpm and not 200Nm

Wonderful job. Nice consolidation of features of this segment. I myself am on the lookout for a MUV/SUV in this price range(though only till 10-12) and this comparision is very handy and saves my time to manually do same

re: Compared! MUVs & SUVs from the 7 - 14 lakh price range

With the launch of the Safari Storme, the S/MUV space is abuzz once again. I have updated the comparison sheets in my second post (in the first post the older Safari's GX variant is compared).

I have chosen middle (EX) variants only (for both the old Safari and the Storme) as the value proposition lies in these variants only, according to me. Both the mid-variants (EX) have rear A/C vents with the Storme having ABS with EBD also.

I feel, the top-end variants with driven & passenger airbags are priced in the XUV & Aria territory and lose out on the value proposition. Unless of-course if one is looking to go for the 4WD version - in which case the Safari & Storme are the only SUVs (in this comparison) with Limited Slip Differential (LSD) and are the preferred choice for hard-core off-roaders.

re: Compared! MUVs & SUVs from the 7 - 14 lakh price range

WOW- what a thread. Hats of to you or all the hard work in doing it and then updating it.
I am looking for a SUV styled front facing 7 seater with airbags and ABS for mainly urban use and some intercity drives and nothing seems to fit except the XUV 500 which is too flashy outside and esp. inside for my tastes.
I wonder if manufacturers have missed a segment of the urban 35-45 yr olds who need the utility of an ertiga ie ability to take 7 in safety and reasonable comfort with the styling of an SUV (not necessarily the off roading abilities).

The following features come as standard in Ertiga (Vdi/Zdi) which are either having a N or a ? in the comparison chart:

Re: Compared! MUVs & SUVs from the 7 - 14 lakh price range

Great effort. Very detailed!
My God, how did you collect so much of details? You have put in so much of time in it. I appreciate. Great thread. Deserves a 5 star rating.

It will definitely help others in feature comparison.

I did not recognize that Ertiga's instrument panel light intensity can be adjusted. Though slightly OT, our Wagon R 2001 had most of what is present in an Ertiga now!!

To me, the most important and nice to have are
- Seat belt reminder
- Door ajar alarm
- Door autolock
- Key & headlight on reminder
- Seat & Steering adjustments

Below can be updated for the benefit of others.

Ertiga:
  • Autolocking - Y 20kmph
  • ZXI/ZDI - Remote for Audio system - Yes
  • Lane change indicator - Yes
  • Wiper speed intermittent - Dont know how many but its there, i think 6 but I could be wrong. It was 6 in Fiesta.
  • Anti Drip wiping - You mean the final wipe after few seconds of switching off the wiper? i think its there in Ertiga though not sure. It was there in Fiesta.
  • 12V outlet in Ertiga - Yes at the front
  • I dont remember having a Sun glass holder either.

Illumination color -white
Follow me,home lights -yes
Anti drip wiping - does, this mean a wipe after a few, seconds the wiper is switched off - if yes, then quanto has this
Spare wheel alloy - yes
Dash color - liight green / beige

Never noticed the torque spread statistics earlier. No wonder Innovas are so quick in the city! The Grande is a big surprise!
