Toyota Liva TRD Sportivo. EDIT : Now for Etios too!

Mod Note : Please continue the Liva 1.5L TRD Sportivo Discussion in Our Official Review. Thanks

Toyota launched its Toyota Etios with bodykit, named it the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo.

Engines remain same. Probably would have made sense plonking in Etios' 1.5 on this variant at least (Or atleast the VGT from the Altis Diesel). The TRD association demanded a better engine.

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

While the cosmetic facelift looks nice, but with no performance increase in the car itself, I really doubt the number of takers for this variant. The body is different, but the heart is the same.

The spoilers and the side skirts look nice though!

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Usual Toyota marketing. When the lower J and G variants dont sell bring in a limited edition sports model with a body kit and some useless features and try to sell them.

They did it with the Altis a couple of times as well as with the Innova.

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Doesn't those bumpers look similar to that on 2012 Dzire? With Sportivo tag, would have expected
  • Better engine option (in petrol as well as diesel)
  • Better instrument console (I guess it is same as current Liva as there is no mention about the changes)
  • Rear wash and wipe option for diesel
  • Front fog lamps
Otherwise those alloys look really cool.

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Apart from the Ford Fiesta S, I don't think any other special edition models deserve to be called a "special edition".
Without any performance upgrade, it's a shame that manufacturers put in some unwanted stuff. I don't think it will have much takers either.

The Body is also the same. Only additional ornaments. Their VX version anyway has those ornaments, but this tries to bring the TRD flavour, without the right ingredients.

Its just a G variant with the additional items.

Since they are repeating it on every model line, it must have worked for them. Thats also a point of worry, that this stuff might be selling.

Even the Fiesta S, could have done atleast with an agressive engine map in addition to the uprated suspension and wheels.

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Looks like just another 'special edition' which is a common practice by Toyota. All I can see is that a few external tweaks and alloys. Should have had atleast the Etios engine thrown in to pull in some enthusiasts.

How many of them buy a new car just for the few new stickers and plastics? Looks like more of a marketing gimmick to attract some limelight, to otherwise very boring car (no offense meant, just my personal opinion).

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Maybe the right time to attract some of the Swift customers. Changes look ok and alloys are attractive

Re: Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo

Wish Toyota offered a Tachometer in the "Sportivo" variants. Otherwise this deal looks like more "show" than go.

Suspension noise was another thing, hope Toyota have rectified that. Even the rear seat required proper bolstering & added foam for comfort. Rubber beading on doors would have taken care of NVH levels too.

I hope you are not serious. Why would anyone plan to buy this 'special edition' Liva in place of the Swift? Although, people who have already shortlisted the Liva might be tempted I agree.

But for the customers sake, I hope people stop responding to such gimmicks. Might help in automakers becoming more serious about upgrades going forward.

I dont think this is to cash-in on the Manesar situation that the Swift is being a victim of.

However, Toyota's quite desperate to get some cars moving, the Brio too falls in the range and is now attracting more customers, given that Thailand flood situation is behind them now.

Re: Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo

I Honesly expected a better response from Toyota. I would have been happy if they provided a race-chip along with the stock engine, at the very least.

IS there some kind of a cartel amogst Manfacturers now-a-days? Toyota and its competitors are all following the stickering limited editions/special editions trend

What I meant is with Swift suffering from long (read unanswerable) waiting period , people in a hurry can switch over to a brand that can be as reliable as Suzuki and holds a good reputation in the market + quality service.
I am particularly trying to mention the Liva diesel as an alternate to Swift diesel. We have superior petrol cars in the market.
