Re: Honda gearing up for CNG

If someone buys a Honda Jazz now, can he get CNG fitted with the dealer when they arrive?

Hi nvssudheer,

There is no solid information that the CNG kit can be installed in the cars currently manufactured by Honda.

CNG cars seems to have slight variations in the suspension set up and engine settings.

Also the information display systems have to be integrated.

Hence, if you are very keen on CNG Hondas, its always better to wait.

Not yet.

Honda will adopt a "wait and watch" policy when it will launch the City CNG to gauge the market's reaction, then bring it into other models. The Brio & the Jazz are almost certain to follow suit if the City CNG meets success, for which a launch in early 2013 can be expected.

Diesels will follow in the latter half of 2013.

Expected launch order of Honda India :- City CNG --> Brio AT --> Brio CNG --> Jazz CNG --> City i-DTEC --> Brio i-DTEC --> Jazz i-DTEC (?)

A BRIO CNG with AT would be a perfect city car, i dont think there is any AT CNG car in the market right now.

Honda could launch City's CNG variant to compensate the lack of diesel cars

It looks like Honda will finally acknowledge the constraint of its petrol-only portfolio by launching a CNG variant of its once popular City sedan.

The Times of India reported that this launch could be timed for October during the festival season to compete with its rivals’ diesel models like Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.

The report added that CNG kit and cylinder fitting for on-road cars will be done at dealerships, while the factory will also produce the CNG variant. It will be priced at about Rs 50,000-60,000 more than the current price of the City (starting at Rs 7.6 lakh ex-Mumbai).

While a positive move by Honda, it also reeks of desperation from the Japanese auto giant. Honda is currently 8th in terms of the domestic market share. The City's sales has also waned in the recent past; it has sold just over 2,200 units per month in the current fiscal year. Honda's decline can be mainly attributed to its well-documented, flawed strategy of not offering a single diesel model in a market dominated by diesel cars.

Honda will hope that the City’s CNG variant will put up some challenge in this segment. But it will surely be limited as customer interest will be restricted by CNG’s limited availability and the performance downgrade that accompanies CNG variants. Ultimately, it seems like the only way back for Honda will be to introduce diesel engines in India.

Honda City CNG to be launched in October 2012. EDIT : Launched!-honda-city.jpg

Re: Honda gearing up for CNG

Are Honda managers residing just in the NCR and Bombay?
What about the regions without CNG supply? How will Honda manage these markets?

Err, Honda has not yet decided to stop manufacturing petrol engines. Have they? And they are bringing out diesel cars soon. So I dont get the point actually. There are a couple of other companies that are providing CNG option. So why not Honda?

Honda City with CNG coming next month

I was seriously thinking about buying the SX4 CNG VXi especially since a considerable discount is being offered.

Just learnt today that Honda City is also being launched with a CNG variant. I called Ring Road Honda, Moti Nagar and they confirmed the launch.

On the first navaratra, the company will make a formal announcement and reveal the prices.

Now I'm awaiting this launch and have deferred by decision to buy the SX4 CNG for the time being.

Don't think Jazz will be offered with a CNG variant. Spoke to a dealer today and City CNG launch on first day of navaratras is officially confirmed.

Re: Honda gearing up for CNG

Filling CNG without opening the hood is a good thing.

Any idea about the kind of CNG kit installed - i.e. closed loop, sequential, lamba etc?
