Coming back to the news, I am not sure how well a 1.6 civic with 120 horses fare when they already have a pretty good 1.5 engine in the market on the city. It would kind of overlap the segment from customer's perspective and most might not be ready to shell out that extra cash for a meagre power gain. Honda should keep in mind the competition and try to come up with a 2.0 L version which churns out good power, and add civic fd's drivability on top of that to make a market segment leader. *i wish*

Re: Honda may postpone launch of new Civic, discontinue Accord in India

Corolla is doing pretty well in a segment that was declared as 'dead' though. And the Altis diesel is a dud, so there is a market for a petrol sedan, unlike what Honda deduced. With the drop in fuel prices, there has been a major shift to petrol engine cars.

The Civic will make it to India, but I guess not this year. Unless Honda plans to get aggressive across all segments.

Honda Civic LHD spotted in India at their facility in in Tapukara, Rajasthan - Could be for R&D purpose.
Expect the model to be displayed at the Auto Expo 2016 when Honda could reveal their India plans.

Pretty sure this is for R&D purposes especially since this is a LHD model and not camouflaged. I somehow did not like the way this car looks. Looks too aggressive compared to the last Civic in India. I love that car for its looks and will be one of my dream cars.

Isn't this also the outgoing generation ? The car is LHD but fuel lid is also on the left side, I wasn't aware that Honda also sell cars which are partially converted/adapted to markets for e.g. Octavia.

Honda patents Accord and Civic designs for India.

Honda has even patented the design for the Honda Civic Concept too in India. The Honda Civic 2016 comes in sedan and coupe style and for India it has been patented for the four-door sedan only

The Civic will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine with direct injection and will come with six-speed manual and CVT options. For India, there will even be a diesel engine too.

Is this the Civic or Accord?

If Civic I some how feel the older car to be a better looker. Even after so many years it still is a head turner.

Civic should not have been withdrawn if first place. Still, hoping it gets relaunched sooner

Civic in a 1.5 litre engine. Not likely as City is 1.5 and Corolla is 1.8. If so, Corolla can breathe easy for a longer time.

Vasudeva, the 1.5 L direct injection engine rumored to be in Civic will not be same as the one in City. If I understand correctly, the 1.5 L DI engine currently used in the international variants of Jazz produces 132 PS power and 155 Nm torque. I agree, these figures are still less compared to Corolla's 140 PS and 173 Nm.

Actually the 1.8 i-VTEC in the US City will give figures very similar to that of Corolla and I wonder why Honda plans to offer a different engine in the Indian variant. Another probability is the 1.5 L DI engine could be tuned to provided a better power and torque output to match Corolla's - or probably a Turbo added to it to make it more delicious. Too much speculation from my end, I guess.

Re: Honda may postpone launch of new Civic, discontinue Accord in India

I do not see in my own personal experience how BHP matters more than engine size. I have a 1.5l petrol 2015 City with 117-118 bhp and a 2007 1.8l petrol Corolla with 125 bhp. The Corolla is a lot more responsive and perky than the 2015 City even though the bhp difference is not much. Civic needs a 1.8 l engine, otherwise what do we get in Civic that we may not get in City, at least mechanically. If Civic is wider and heavier, then it could even be underpowered.

As it is, this is all speculation, and it is highly likely that Civic will be a higher spec engine than 1.5l.

Re: Honda may postpone launch of new Civic, discontinue Accord in India

I look forward to the revival of the Civic in India. Whether 1.5 or 1.6 will barely matter. I for one will prefer the 1.5 DI any day. Is that DOHC as well?

Re: Honda may postpone launch of new Civic, discontinue Accord in India

The new Civic has been announced to get a 1.5 turbo I-VTEC engine. The engine has debuted in the Japanese market in 150 bhp tune. Everybody is speculating (hoping) that the civic would get a more powerful version. Should be a drool-worthy prospect.
