That was good.
IMO Fiat is not having more than required variants. 3 for Diesel Linea and 2 for Petrol Linea. 2 more for T-Jet (Which anyway is not in stock). For Punto you are right.

The Innova & Scorpio (at 23 variants each), Xylo (13), i20 (12) come to mind wrt mind-boggling no. of variants.

Re: Tata Motors to launch refreshed variants in October 2012

When BS4 gets implemented all over India, then atleast the BS3 variants i.e. The NA (Naturally Aspirated -No Turbo) and the TDI (or rather T - IDI - Turbo variant of the NA engine) will get phased out. Unless Tata conjures up a magic trick to upgrade these engines to BS4 norms

Re: Tata Motors to launch refreshed variants in October 2012

1) We do need to see it TATA actually does this.
2) TATA tends to keep varients in the price book that don't sell in decent numbers or not at all. - Not a good Idea.
3) Every time they add varients they should also discontinue some, else am sure it would be hard for them, the dealer and the customer to handle - too confusing.
4) The varients planned seem interesting and yet will them happen. They need to cut back the vista engine options to 3.
5) 90 PS Quadrajet vista would be a great Idea, but needs to be accompanied as many mention by suspension tweaks and possibly sold as a sport varient - SX/SDi anyone.
6) 75 PS Manza if it does come would possibly be a stripped down varient for the TAXI segment and to take on the New Logan competition. - Price it below a few hatch and this could tempt private users as well.

TATA has about 7 varients of its currently 2 digit selling Aria as well - a few too many if you ask me that too in 8 colours. How do they manage inventory?

Indica eV2 : 4 variants
Indica V2 N/A : 4 variants

Thus, you have a whopping 16 variants of the 15 year old Indica!

Indigo:

eCS : 9 variants across THREE different engine options

XL : 3 variants

In all, the ol' Indigo has 12 variants!

Manza

8 variants (the only sensibly positioned car here). 4 each for petrol & diesel.

Vista

TWELVE variants with FOUR engine options.

If I were a potential customer, I'd be sure as hell confused in a Tata showroom . I mean, seriously, does the Vista need FOUR engine options?

I can just imagine the scene:

Tata Junior : Sir, our sales are down / flat in the last quarter
Tata Senior : Lets release some more engine options and variants. That should solve matters for sure.

Now, this thread announces even more VARIANTS . Tata should rename itself to VARIANT MOTORS.
GTO! Thanks for the statistics. Never expected that Tata has launched so many engine variants in the same Body of indica / Indigo.

i agree with what Tata is doing, as long as the volumes support these variants. Tata has sold decent volumes in the past 15 years in india, so i think it is OK as every manufacturer wants to distinguish his products from the rest. and this is Tata's way of doing things.

Now a days the volumes are going down. This concerns me the most. A design change in their cars is mandatory. Indica / Indigo should be discontinued. new platforms are mandatory for tata's future.

A small correction. Last time I saw, Tata had reduced the number of variants to Four. All except the Pride come only in 4x2 and the Pride only in 4x4.

Same question as @arvindmanju - Source of Info ?

If it was a lil birdie you know of, any idea on what happened to
a) 'Manza CS' &
b) Two Tone 'Manza Duo'
- not to mention Nano Diesel

I was assuming that Tata lost heart (profits) in India (South Africa/Indonesia being newer geographies they increased focus on)

Poor Karl Slym. He has the unenviable job of transforming ugly ducklings into swans at TATA Motors and this is not exclusive to the cars!

Re: Tata Motors to launch refreshed variants in October 2012

Here is the link (courtesy Motorbash) to one of impending launches from Tata, the much acclaimed (for fuel efficiency) CR4 engine will now be doing duty on Vista:

http://motorbash.com/scoop-tata-indi...ed-in-october/

Tata can save on the royalty for the MJDs, provide this move proves to be successful. But, could also be a replacement for the TDI unit, which may not meet pollution norms in the future.

Thanks was not aware. But just remembered that they do also offer two upholstery options in leather trim I.e. black & black and black & plum.

Cheers.

Samsung has the experience of getting the best features from other mobile phones and implementing the same at cheaper cost.

Now Tata cars will have the class leading features at cheaper cost. This is a great move by Tata.

@sidgo7 What about Nano? No updates/refreshed variants there? Any update on the Nano with Cylinder petrol engine? Someone on another thread stated that the production for this has begun!
