I would say so. Hopefully they can carry over the characteristics of the 1.6 TDI to the 1.5 TDI and by that I mean the power and whoosh :D.

If they can manage that (i'm skeptical on this) the Polo will transform into one HOT hatch, the Vento/Rapid if offered at a slightly lower price point should see good sales.

I think cars with 1.6 engines and above attract a 27% duty after the recent budget announcement increased from 22% as far as I can recall. So a 1.5 should attract lower excise duty too. But its the time factor that matters and VW has been found to be very slow to react to changes. Unless the 1.5 arrives soon some more policy changes can create more hurdles for VW.

VW is very slow to adapt and react to our market, but I'm assuming there won't be too many drastic policy changes considering state elections in 2013 and general elections in 2014, so if they can get the new sedan and 1.5TDI into their cars, VW should be safe. But one can never say what the govt will do :)

Somewhere something is wrong if VW is making cars for the "masses"! Either their definition for the "masses" is different from the general ones or we are expecting too much from the VW "masses"!

If the car has to sell in numbers, there is lot more than the 4m dimension & brand value. That also means the car has to be priced very competitive. It will also mean that they should have more dealerships & A$$ to reach out. And on top of it, they should have neat priced spares & service costs! How many of these will be achieved with the introduction of the compact sedan? Forgot to add, their cars need to be boringly reliable as well!

I personally will buy an inferior brand and still crowned a king than buying a premium brand and treated like a beggar! For the "masses", I don't think they are going to be any different!

Motorbeam has spotted a Polo on test. Possibly the Polo with 1.5 TDi.

Volkswagen has already launched the updated Polo, then why is the company still testing it. We spotted the Polo pictured here in Mumbai, with MH14 plates. In our brief encounter, we could hear slightly lower engine sound but can’t really confirm anything at this moment.

Could Volkswagen be testing a 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Polo.

If the release as rumored to be 2014, the testing should begin now, and there is no surprise in that!

Cheers!

There would not be any further upgrades for the existing Polo, though rumors are there on the possibility of a 1.6AT in Polo!

Cheers!

1.5 tdi will have the 106 ps for vento and 90 ps for polo. Common engine with power difference is necessary to keep product balance in market and justify the investments by getting combined volume.

If this is true, it is a welcome move by VW. This shows the commitment of VW for India. I read some where that VW ranked number #1 globally. This position won't come overnight, be it Toyota or VW. They did the needed analysis on the market and responded well to the needs.
