I heard that the bookings have started and deliveries will start from the first week of October.

I feel this vehicle has the capability to serve as a hatch + people carrier at the same time. I might consider this in due time to replace my Wagon R and it can double up transporting office staff when required.

Car has made DUSTER considered as overpriced:Shockked: , even before hitting the road. Mind you, Duster was considered VFM in comparision (or without) to beloved YETI.

I believe time has come that SUV/MUV should be properly classified in segments similar to Sedans. The segment is growing at the highest rate and people should know what territory they are entering into, as it is presently perceived based on sitting capacity. That is especially true lower down the value chain. As for now classification is pretty much vague, and is only done at the manufacturer level. As Mahindra can classify Bolero, XUV, Xylo and this people carrier- Quanto.

IMHO I will classify and compare these UV with following-

Quanto- Category A something like Alto

Duster- Category B, something like Swift

Yeti- Premium swift , may be a swift/Jazz with 1.6 liter MJD. No segment at present :uncontrol

Regards,
Maddy

Finally, a vehicle that looked better with the test camouflage on.

Personally, I feel that the Quanto looks somewhat like a penguin on roller skates. I think that ladder frame constructions and sub-4 m lengths do not go together.
For the small SUV segment around the 4m mark, monocoque constructions will make more sense as they will be lighter, better handling and much better looking.

I think I read that the Quanto weighs around 1600 kgs. Does that make it one of the heaviest 'small' cars in the world? :)

I seriously don't think the Quanto is going to dent the markets of Duster or Innova or the likes; Ertiga, maybe. They could have atleast given the Genio derived face of the new Xylo, which could have lifted the overall appeal of the Quanto. And 1640Kg? What is Mahindra engineers smoking? Even commercial vehicles are getting lighter these days :Frustrati

It looks more like a sibling to Premier Rio to me. Looks like the Mahindra's took the Rio a bit too seriously. Ertiga & Duster are such great lookers. Quanto looks absolutely like a confused thing in front of the said 2 vehicles.

The 1640 kg weight is worth giving a thought. May be, Mahindra's have thought way too further of the scrap value. lol

Dear o dear !
I wouldn't want to be seated in that 3rd row seat for sure = claustrophobia at its prime !
Crude design overall too.

I agree agree: with you that the only thing we can rely completely is the TBHP review.

But after following the vehicle and the threads for so long, I wish that what is written in ACI proves wrong and what is not so clearly mentioned in Zigwheels proves correct. If is happens so I can seriously think for upgrading from my 2 year old Alto K10 :D.

Why, why, why, why are you offering this box in india Mahindra?

Is this vehicle designed by the same company, which has designed an XUV

This is clearly a low investment-high return plan for M&M. Didn't want to bother with too many changes to Xylo. Hence this ugly thing.

Nevertheless, M&M should have brought the facelifted Xylo front. No excuses.

Xylo (and hence Quanto) is body on frame construction, right? Is the heavy frame responsible for the 1600 Kg?

The sad truth remains that there is still no perfect SUV under or around 10L OTR. But at least the options are increasing with new entries like Duster, Ecosport & Quanto.

That maybe the reason. But for a sub 4m car, that's a lot of dead weight to lug around. Anyway, as somebody already mentioned, it seems like a minimal effort-maximum return strategy from Mahindra. As a side note, Mahindra came up with their first monocoque design after 65 years of their existence. That makes you think about the company's strategies.

Bangalore prices taken from price list

exsho Tax Insur Oths OTR
608910 + 94625 + 22546 +5500 -> 731581
663,715 + 103141 + 24467 + 5500 -> 796823
716,601 + 111360 + 26320 +5500 -> 859781
769,271 + 119545 + 28166 +5500 -> 922482

Much higher than even I'd anticpated.:Frustrati not sure whether it is worth spending 8.6L on this. Waiting for Tbhp review before taking a decision on this.

Quanto video review by Autocar India

After seeing that lady sit in the third row, I cant see how she ll be able to even move herself once the door is closed. Utterly useless two seats.
Performance nothing to speak of and not at all a good highway performer. I guess the only plus points then are first and second row space and the higher stance/ground clearance.
Doesn't it make more sense to push a little and go for the 85 Ps duster over this as that would be having similar Power to weight ratio (or even better) despite having lesser power. In the bargain you get much better handling and a better looker too (subjective though).
