The one car which came to Cochin was instantly sold, and I have been waiting for 6 days now, for the next display car, bit it does not seem to be here yet. Getting all vague excuses like , it is in the port, off the ship, Volvo yard etc etc.
The price is surely tempting and loaded with kit too. The only questions are about space, and ride comfort.
Any inputs on these factors from anyone who has seen/driven one will be appreciated.

I simply loved the car and wanted to buy it when I saw it in pictures. When I visited the showroom, I got totally confused between V40 and S60. Though V40 looks gorgeous from outside, except that fancy tachometer of V40, I felt S60 interiors more comfortable and premium and ended up enjoying the test drive of it. :D |
What is the price point of the S60? Also the V40 has this unique character to it. S60 is just like any regular luxury sedan right?

I saw S60 D3 and the on-road price in Hyderabad is 36 lacs, where as V40 is 35 lacs on-road.
I totally agree with you that S60 isn't much different from any other luxury sedans and V40 has a unique character (and more features too). From outside, it is simply stunning. But on the inside, may be because I felt that the dashboard is on a bit higher side and you are seated low, I somehow didn't feel that comfortable.
I just sat for a few moments though, so I shouldn't comment on it's interiors. Will have a detailed test drive if possible, and then give my opinion.
Head on challenge with A class?? Wow, this ad shows the confidence of Volvo on their car. clap:
By the way, is it an international ad or an Indian one? Because I don't think we have that color available in India.

This is an international ad seen on Volvo UK website;
http://www.volvocars.com/uk/all-cars...challenge.aspx
Also sadly this shade of blue isn't available in India :deadhorse
This is one gorgeous vehicle. Interiors feel dated but my god what a beautiful looking car. Also, If the S60/80 ownership reviews in the latest AC magazine are anything to go by it should be a very solid vehicle.
I'm fairly uninformed of this make in our country though. Could someone comment on the dealer & service network of the Volvo brand in India when compared to it's German rivals. I think it's the thinnest of the lot, am I wrong?

Volvo cars are built for safety. Their engineers focus more on safety features than on the interior styling & design. That is why they their interiors are so simple and the cars have first in class safety features like Automatic braking, Pedestrian airbags etc. And, every Volvo car equally gives you that SOLID feel.
And regarding the dealer and service network, you are right. They are thinnest of the lot. They hardly have 12 showrooms across India. I guess some of them are recently opened ones.
But, I've read some where long back that they are planning to expand their network extensively in the next couple of years.
Spotted a V40 on Chord Road last week. Compact.

I spotted this one in Pune yesterday. Looks cool, but is huge in size when seen actually on road; as compared to the pictures & photos... |

It's a pity that Volvo V40 has such boring colors and nothing quite sporty which will add to the personality of the car. Isn't this bl**dy thing a CBU? And it's so difficult to offer these colors here, when they just have to bring the unit as such from abroad!! :deadhorse

Volvo cars should be bought for the safety equipment. Interiors are easily the most boring among the trio, brand value & dealer network also fares the same way. If you do NOT care for the snob value, do give their cars a try please. :)

That shade of blue is available with the regular v40 only, and not with the Cross Country model. Though the range of exterior colour options are not so exhaustive as in Europe or other markets, the popular colour choices are indeed available in India. Infact I love the copper shade from the picture above :)
Somehow almost all manufacturers are pretty reluctant to offer the complete range of colour choices in India, whether it’s a CBU or local assembly. IIRC, Mercedes provides only just 3 colour choices for the A-Class.

You should check out the car in person. In my opinion, the interiors are a step above the likes of 1-series, and the seats are probably the best in its range.

When I said interiors, I was thinking of the dash alone and it's layout. Though I have seen the interiors ONLY in pics, I don't like those compared to the German trio. The part quality could be better, but the looks are definitely NOT upto my taste.
My friend who had TDed an S60 was neither impressed with the dash, but was crazy about all other attributes and the dynamics too.
i recently TDed the V40, S 60 and XC 60.
I was simply blown away by the drive of the V40- the quality o fthe dash and the design is a notch higher than the Germans.
the two issues i had with this car is that this is not a family car- the rear seat has pathetic leg room
the second issue is the miserable GC which resulted in us scraping most gurgaon speed humps (this is also an issue with the A class)
But given a choice between the v40, A class or the 1 series, as a product, the V 40 is clearly superior in most respects IMHO
However, given our road conditions, for the same amount of money, a Q3 is a far better buy.
