IIRC, the Opel Vectra was sold in India only against import entitlements and had to be paid for out of foreign currency. In other words, it was an import and was not available freely. Only exporters and other foreign exchange earners could buy it. This explains its rarity.

Cheers,

Cheers,
i think it was quite freely available in all GM showrooms. we were almost going to buy one (we are no exporters!) & had visited two showrooms, TD the vectra in one of them, took the price quotations, but then wisely decided to wait & watch the response of the car in the market.

I agree. It was freely available to anyone, atleast in bombay for sure.

ZEN classic
ZEN Carbon and Steel

Opel Astra, Vectra, Swing, Corsa, Sail
Daewoo Matiz - then there was an "upgraded' version of the Cielo - cant remember what it was called
Maruti Versa
Three wheeler Vikram
Standard Rover 2000
Rover Montego
Then in Coimbatore there was one locally designed and fabricated car from the same guys who made Jaya Diesel engines - that also failed.

Hey Shankar, i think that model was called Nexia. Lot of people thought that was still Cielo. I don't remember what the changes were new in that model. Some cosmetic changes to the front and rear i think.

Sigh people are still confused about Flop cars.

I see Zen Steel & Carbon in the list, how can limited Edition cars be called Flop?

Matiz during its time was doing more than 4000 per month. So it can't be classified as flop.

The upgraded version of Cielo wased named as Cielo Nexia.
Its really a bad car, but used to give better AC cooling than other cars.

ok
my take on flop also means impractical given our penchant for VFM etc

Well VFM varries from Individual to individual.

Anyways I wasnt directing it at you, I have often seen people refer to even the Palio S10 as flop simply because there arent enough of them on the road, not knowing that they were a limited edition.

Some have also mentioned Matiz which was in no way a flop.

The kajah beedi people from Kerala had launched a vehicle christened, Kazwa. This flopped miserably.

Some threads mentioned Carbon & Steel models of Maruti as flop.
Actually these cars were export surplus which later Maruti presented to the Indian market as Limited Edition models.

They managed to sell all the limited editions hence don’t think it’s a flop.

I wont consider Rhino a flop. Its odd looking. It sells like hot cakes up north and the company is trying to build a dealer base down south.
