Flop cars in our market

these are some of the cars in the indian market which didnt do good as the manufacturer expected ............... doesnt the manufacturer survey about a product and kind of market before launching a certain model so that they dont face such huge losses.....wat are the other reasons behind the failure of such products ????

2) versa ----- not value for money.
3) baleno altura ---- highly priced station wagon.
4) grand vitara ----- highly priced , expensive spare parts , resale value .

opel :-

1) vectra

hyundai :-

1) terracan

tata :-

1) safari petrol

ford :-

1) fusion ---- most expensive hatch in india.
2) new mondeo

maini :-

1) reva (the battery car) ---- india s very own "smart".

mitsubishi :-

1) pajero ---- outdated model launched.

nissan :-

1) x-trail ----- expensive .

These are not 'failures' because they are targeted at niche segments...
Zen classic for those who value classic looks and Altura for owners with farm houses and/or big dogs (the rear tray in Altura has been specifically designed for carrying big dogs comfortably)

If it was the case then supercars would all be classed as flops.

You have to look at the product, its target market and then look at how many were built/imported and the numbers sold.

Personally i dont think the vectra and the reva where flop cars, the vectra just could not get its pricing right, i guess thats the reason it never sold, but a brilliant car neverthless (bad mileage notwithstanding). The Reva might be a slow starter because this tech. is still in it nascent stage, maybe its ahead of its time for the indian market!! but i wouldn't write it off yet cause they still are managing to sell them abroad!!

Majority of flops cars would have been hit if they were priced cheaper.
I don't know what calculation the manufacturers perform when they launch a new cars in the market.

Reva is more hit in UK than in India. Ford Fusion also sales quite a good number in Europe/USA. Vectra, Mondeo & XTrail are among the most common cars in UK. All of them are excessively priced in India.

Indian market is basically very price sensitive. That's why Alto/Santro & similar cars sell like hot cakes

I would also consider the Indica diesel a flop car despite the fact that its sales were very good. This is because of the crappy engine and poor NVH levels. It's underpowered too. Common guys, which modern car manufacturer uses indirect diesel injection these days. And the Indica is supposed to be the first truly Indian car. Tata should have come up with a modern engine for the Indica, if not before but atleast when the CRDi and the DICOR was introduced.
People only buy that car because it's a freakin cheap diesel car and has good fuel economy.

Do you have any idea how car-sales result in a car being a flop? Guess not! you take the number of people in a region, who bought cars in a certain category and price range. then the model sales are compared relative to each other. and tht is how a flop is determined. Oh btw, thts why supercars arent flops, coz they are all sold out. each and every model includng waiting lists. next time, think before you post.

How about Opel Corsa Sail?

Palio is not a flop, though Siena/Petra sadly is.

Good to see that you have extended your flop model and ensured that all cars listed above have met your criteria. I suggest next time you read what my post related to. It was to the notion that the Terracan was a flop on the basis it did not sell many.

Indica Diesel may be a poor product in your opinion but if we take RanjaUniteds flop model which no doubt he has picked up whilst doing a degree module then the Indica Diesel cannot be classified as a flop. It is a superhit.

Is this the beginning of another fight session?
Guys, please let’s not get into that. We’ll have no choice but lock the thread.
