oops completely forgot the Opels, Now even the Corsa's production has stopped. Also if am not wrong even the Vectra is not available.
So two more

Yes the new Sonata is called Sonata Embera, thats why I wrote just Sonata :)

yes Mahindra as well as Willy's jeep. I think GTO can update on that :-)

Btw is the Palio 1.6 still in production ?

@john: Thanks for reminding the Sipani. I think the M800 look alike whose name I couldn't remember was Sipani D1 or something like that

Yes,i enquired about this from one of the tata-fiat dealerships, the 1.6 is still in production but 1.9 diesel production is stopped .

1.6 is still in production. 1.9 dsl is also in production, but will be available only in exclusive fiat dealerships.

BTW, another product that is defunct now is Fiat Uno.

Ford Escort : perhaps a nice car; which died too soon in the Indian Car Scene. Did you guys agree with GM pushing Chevy Brand In and Pulling out Opel Brand Out.

Mahindra Ford Escort

Bajaj Tempo (Firodia/Force) products

You are right Nitinz.

Hiding under the cover of marketing hype, GM discontinued their solid long-life GM Europe products: The Opel Vectra, Opel Kadett/Vauxhall Astra and the Opel Corsa.

Hitherto in India, "Chevrolet" connoted the V8 Impala muscle car and the never-say-die Chevrolet school buses that kids of my time and me, went to school in, in the 1960s. IMHO, I see that Chevrolet brand of solidity and long-life, being murdered in India.

GM's India representation now sell second class Asian products:
Subaru Forester as Chevrolet Forester
Daewoo Nubira as Chevrolet Optra
Isuzu Panther as Chevrolet Tavera

Ergo, their latest placebo: the Aveo doesn't appeal to my heart!

There was a litigation against General Motors marketing the Opel Astra as a German Engineered car. But the car was actually manufactured somewhere in Australia and imported to India.. The case was ruled in favour of the person who had filed the litigation and General Motors had to repay back the full money of the car along with nominal bank interest to the person after 5 years of using the car.

Guess what, you get to keep your car and you get your money back.. Now isn't that an irresistable deal.. I guess thats when General Motors started pulling out the Opel Brand.. I guess they had even given a disclaimer in a leading news-paper.

I've read this story somewhere.. Don't quite remember the exact details..

Guys,

Is there any Government-regulation that after a company stops a model, they have to support/provide the spares for X number of years?

PS : of course the assumption being that the company is alive :)

I think its 10 years, atleast from what I have come to know on the forum, Honda has promised spares for OHC for 10 years.

In my search for 'armrest for baleno' i had called the honda guys, i asked them if they stock of the 'OHC armrest' they told that b'cos its discontinued, they dont sell 'OHC armrest' anymore.....

so may be the 10 year rule is may be only for a certain category of spares :?
