Congrats buddy. Which model did you buy rx7 or rx5. Regarding the suv pulling towards the left, i guess that has been shorted out as my Rexton does'nt show any signs of it. Good to know that you are not facing any major issues.

Re: Mahindra launches the SsangYong Rexton @ 17.67 - 19.67 lacs

I've been using Bolero SLX since Nov-2011, also have a Scorpio. There is one question in my mind- "will it be the way it is after an year of usage or not?" since i am facing this poor workmanship in both the vehicles. they're loaded with many features but after some time they start malfunctioning.

My friend bought a RX7 couple weeks back, till yet no issues of any sorts(as reported by some Bhpians). According to him quality wise the product is much better than Scorpio's and Xuv's ( he had couple of Scorpios & a Bolero earlier).

Re: Mahindra launches the SsangYong Rexton @ 17.67 - 19.67 lacs

I took a test drive of the Rexton in coimbatore today. I got to say that it is a fantastic vehicle. Engine is very responsive and ride comfort is awsome. I took the vehicle into a field nearby which was a barren/rutted agricultural field and drove the vehicle flat out in that field. It was absolutely comfortable. The automatic has no lag and is very quick to respond and engine is very peppy.

I will go for the Manual one since I am not very comfortable with Korean/Chinese electronics. The RX5 Manual gives me all I need including the low range transfer case.

Do actually try out the manual. As you would be aware it does have lesser power - though it may be sufficient for most purposes. Is the AT design from Korea or inherited from Mercedes?

Unfortunately no dealer has Manual TD vehicles. Manual I saw was a customer vehicle ready for delivery. Most dealers have only AT for test drives. Manual + Race Chip = 200 bhp. Good enough for me. Moreover, being a 5 cylinder engine, it has good low end grunt.

AT is from Mercedes. Manual gear box is so slick, you can change gears with just a finger. Of course, vehicle was on display, I couldn't drive it, but just sat in and tried out gear changes.

Right choice..
I have bought Rexton manual 3 months back. It has got a fantastic gear shift. The best part is manual comes with a 4 low, So it makes rx5 a proper offroader. Moreover manual is much more responsive than than the auto Rexton. Regarding the engine power, its more than enough and one can easily add a diesel tuning box as the engine is already detuned by the company. So there is lots of scope of upping the power. You can check my travelogue and a mini review in Travelogue section....HYD-KAZA-HYD IN SSANGONG REXTON..

Hi, Are you checking the mileage? What are you averaging. Please put up a review when you get the chance.

Hi,
Rexton in city with ac gives me about 9 kmpl. In highway driving fully loaded (5 adults 2 children with about 150kg luggage)from Hyd- Kaza and back the average came to about 10.5kmpl. This average came with driving in himalayas for nearly 900 kms.
Hope this helps.

Re: Mahindra launches the SsangYong Rexton @ 17.67 - 19.67 lacs

On our recent trip to the South, we spotted a cladded Rexton on test just outside Pune. I dunno if it was a new/revised model or just a variant but the driver sped as soon as he noticed that we were following him. Later, when we overtook him to get some pics from the front, he slowed down almost immediately so that he could create some traffic between us and then got off the road. Will upload some pics in a while.

Here are the pics. As I said earlier, I do not know whether this is a new variant/facelift.

That is just a new Rexton being driven to the showroom/yard for delivery.
The cover that you see,are present on almost all new premium vehicles from the factory

Re: Mahindra launches the SsangYong Rexton @ 17.67 - 19.67 lacs

For anyone wondering whether Rexton has a proper 4x4 low or not, here are few pics to show the 4 wheel drive switch in Manual version. 4H is Torque on demand that is normally it is 4x2 but if there is a need then it gives power to front wheels. 4L is proper low dirving ratio.

I took a TD of the vehicle today since we are considering Fortuner 4x4 in near future. I was pretty impressed with the performance. Did a little bit of Offraod at a steep tricky sand climb and it didnt disappoint. specially the articulation is good, it performed much better than I expected in offroad. No doubt it has a very good ground clearance which the company says 252mm.

Anyone looking for a capable VFM 4x4 vehicle must test drive this. I found this much better than the outgoing model of Santa Fe in terms of engine refinement, drive quality as well as interior fit and finish.

Re: Mahindra launches the SsangYong Rexton @ 17.67 - 19.67 lacs

^ Don't go by the manufacturer declared figures. The actual offroad usable ground clearance in Rexton is inferior to Fortuner, Pajero Sport and Endeavour(except ramp breakover angle). My concern is with low placed Fibre fuel tank with no protection, placed at an vulnerable spot. Side foots steps are look awesome but are placed very low, prone to damage at slightest offroading attempt.

4wd system is pretty good, unless you need a locked 4H(Dunebashing and other uses), the marked 4H is TOD mode, which is unpredictable when it comes to activation.

The 5 cylinder engine is a gem, keeps getting smoother with age, great mid range poke with good choice of gearing ratios.
