Make & Model: Hyundai Santro Xing XO Sept 2005
6yrs, 1 month, 49800 kms
Worshipped Honda City all the while and one day got a good deal on a car which had run < 500 kms

Swift vxi - April 2008 - 32000-odd on the odo
Plan to sell it after a couple of years (at least)

IMHO, Indians keep the ownership of their cars for at least 7 years before they sell it.

Tata Indica DLS 2006: Jan 2006 model
Current ODO reading: 85,000 kms.

Plan to keep it for another year and then upgrade to a SUV (mostly XUV500 or TFort) while keeping this is as a spare car as far as possible before scrapping since there is no point in trying to sell a tata car owning to the poor resale value . Might as well run it to till the car falls apart and my local mechanic is not able to service the same.

Fact is I tend to sell my car once the EMI's are over. Which is more or less every three years. In a strange way, I found it was cheaper than other loans.

Ford Ikon 1.8 D - 2005
5 years 150,000 KM
Replaced with Maruti Suzuki Sx4 ZXi Leather Nov. 2010. (Couldn't wait for 4-6 months of newly launched VW Vento)
(It had served our family really well on tough road conditions & grueling driving style of our chauffer at that time, but it was getting harder by day to maintain her.)

Also planning to replace our following cars in next 6 months
1) Alto Lxi -2007 Dec- 46,000KM by this Dec
Reasons - 5 years & got bored now. (Primarily driven by my wife.) Planning to upgrade with Honda Brio V AT or i20 Petrol Asta

1. 2001 model Toyota Corolla 1.8 XLi - sold in 2008 at 75k Kilometers - very reliable and powerful car. sold it since I was moving to India from Dubai

2. 2008 model Tata Safari 2.2 VTT Lx - my primary commute; stll have it, done 63K kilometers in 4 years - going strong with no issues so far. No plans to sell it in near future

3. 2008 model Alto Lxi - my parents use it; still have it, done 52K kilometers in 4 years - going strong with no issues so far. No plans to sell it in near future

Wow! At the time of posting this reply, >20% of the respondents hold / held onto their car for >=10 years! My reasons for holding on to my Ikon:
1. The 1.6 ROCAM engine's proving itself a gem even 10 years later - extremely responsive and perfect in crazy city traffic and a breeze on the highways (160 easily doable - don't push beyond that level now).
2. Given the crazies on the roads (cabbies, rickshaws, moronic others), would rather deal with them with a trusted ol' lieutenant than a spanky new hotshot!
3. Somehow, spending ~15 L on a similarly powered vehicle (not comparing the City, etc since they're woefully short on space for my 6'6" frame) just doesn't appeal too much, especially in conjunction with the earlier points.

4 yrs., 4 months, about 55,000 kms

3. Top 3 reasons why you sold it.
1) Aspirations grew - Needed a bigger body, bigger heart hatch
2) Car had started showing signs of ages (wear-tear etc.)
3) Choice has grown over period. Now, I have a bigger choice of cars to choose from within my buget limits. VW made me fall in love with it... just had to figure out which one to buy to fit in my budget :-)

1) It was AP registered when I moved to Bangalore from Hyderabad. Hence I was supposed to pay the life time tax and re-register the car here.

2) Monthly usage increased to around 1500-2000Kms, hence wanted a Diesel car

3) Wanted to upgrade

was not getting used much, parking was becoming a problem, repair costs started to go up

Still going strong, done 1.5 L KMs
Not planning to sell this workhorse till repair costs are manageable or need for the need of boot space.
