re: Nissan's Duster-based SUV, the Terrano: Full Pics are out!

Why would one buy a Duster with different headlights and a new name for more money? The Scala is one such experiment that did not work and this Nissan experiment wont either. They should throw in a better interior (not happening) and an automatic transmission (none spotted till date).

re: Nissan's Duster-based SUV, the Terrano: Full Pics are out!

I fail to see the idea of two manufactuers launching the same product may be with a different grill, or some dropping/adding of features. How will it help the market? Are they not going to compete between themselves. If Nissan prices its Duster version cheaper, people will buy it more than the Renault, if Renault Duster is cheaper, Nissan cars wont sell, so end of the day its not a net gain for both the companies.

In real life, with dark tints not allowed, blackened B pillar will not make the same visual impact as in this model pic.

Re: Nissan's Duster based Terrano SUV: This is it!

The Nissan Terrano looks very interesting and it sort of tallies with the picture of it I had in my head. But what got my undivided attention was this little extract:

This is probably not the ideal thread where we could discuss this, but it will be really interesting to see what both Nissan and Renault will have on offer once the product / platform sharing alliance dissolves. Does this mean we'll start getting proper French cars from Renault? Once the Datsun brand arrives, the distinction between the brands will be substantial.

Well as usual I am going rather OT but I want to see and enjoy a Renault Megane someday in India...
I wish Citroen would come in. They also have some nice cars. As indeed, do Peugeot as well.
Citroen's famous suspension would make very light work of our horrid roads, considering that their cars were developed keeping the cobbled, narrow, bumpy streets and roads of France in mind!
Bottom line, I like the French cars and their essence. They have always been accessible, no nonsense kind of motors, aimed at the regular wage earning bloke. With France's strong socialistic tendencies, they never really over played on the 'Luxe' motif, except in a few motors in their line up, though indeed their cars had all that other manufacturers vehicles offered and more. Nice understated vehicles with a touch of typical Gallic Panache and Zest!
Vive la France!

I agree but the naked B pillar on the Duster looks very dated and utilitarian.

Looks fantastic. Absolutely love the front fascia which apparently looks very much like the current-gen Pathfinder! This family look of Nissan with those big fat chrome grills will be an instant favorite with the Indians. The Terrano scores points where the Ecosport loses out with those bulging wheel arches - just what a butch SUV needs. Nice.

Well, these renders can be pretty misleading to say the least, given the exaggerated wheels and stance which make a lot of difference. Do not expect extensive changes to the sheet metal. Rest assured it'll just be a Duster with subtle Nissan-friendly changes up front and in the rear. Also the inclusion of blackened B and C pillars are a possibility.

re: Nissan's Duster-based SUV, the Terrano: Full Pics are out!

Nissan India has just started its online social media campaign for its Duster based SUV, Terrano.
They have also launched its exclusive website which so far only contains the contest details- http://nissanterrano.in/

re: Nissan's Duster-based SUV, the Terrano: Full Pics are out!

The name Terrano is making me nostalgic.

A long time ago (~ 2002), while I was in Milano, Italy, I happened to see an SUV from afar. My immediate thought was "Wow, that looked like a Tata Safari". Later I managed to see similar SUVs up close, and realised that they were variants of the Nissan Terrano II (model years 1995-2000, I guess). They had an uncanny resemblance to our Tata Safari...I am sure the Tata Safari design team took design cues from the Nissan Terrano II.

I used to dream about owing a Nissan Terrano II , and that is what probably makes the Tata Safari such a dream-worthy SUV for me even today .

Good to know that the Terrano brand is making an entry into the Indian automobile market.

Attaching some pics to make things clear.

Such a vehicle will eat up whatever little market share is being currently enjoyed by the Yeti and its like. It will pave the way perfectly for the Korando C, the GM Trax and if Toyota wishes, even the RAV4.

If indeed this happens, then woe betide all the poor old antediluvian monsters masquerading as modern vehicles - like the Safari, Sumo, Scorpio, Force One etc etc. They will all have to go quietly to their "Elephants Graveyard" and extinguish themselves....
Agree with you on yeti comment, but I feel Rs. 16-17l is too expensive for what it offers. Sumo is available for 5-6l, sumo customers will unlikely to buy Terrano for 16L. Safari and scorpio are body on frame rugged SUVs which can take you places comfortably, available at much cheaper price, lower cost of maintenance and better service network. Sure, Terrano may be better in handling, but still people will continue to buy safari/scorpio unless they price it in the same range as safari/scorpio. And then there is XUV/Storme, for people who want a relatively modern vehicle and they offer more for the money than terrano, which may be only 85bhp compared to 120/140. There are many places in India were body on frame SUV is a better choice.

In my opinion. the sale will be limited to select cities/metros and it will largely attract customers of yeti and alike.

I also hope, Nissan does some tweaking to the 85bhp trip, to push it up a bit to 90bhp.

Unless ofcourse, they down price the Renault Duster.
For 15L OTR, the engine capacity should be higher. Probably all SUVs in the developed countries offer more power for similar price. We should stop accepting at whatever the car makers throw at us treating us like second grade customers compared to other countries, regardless of how great is the look.

I think its not just about the power. Its about what one needs in a compact dimension. I cant speak for others, but I would for example love a good quality of build and very frugal engine. And that to me is more important than power. Of course I would like a baseline to be set to what levels would be acceptable to me.

But I do agree that we should get better technologies and not accept what older ones are thrown at us. Power is just a requirement of the many ones in the list.
