re: Mahindra buying Aston Martin? EDIT : Investindustrial is the new owner!

I think this is a good outcome for Mahindra. Being in the stage of evolution as a car maker as they are, they need acquisitions that provide them with accesible technology - Aston Martin is not known for being at the cutting edge of automotive tech, yes they make awesome cars but usually a quarter of a circle behind in the tech cycle. I wonder if M&M is looking to acquire companies that give them access to key tech such as engines, transmission, etc. Aston Martin would have been just another vanity acquisition.

Hi,

For those who aren't aware, Aston Martin is on the same site (Gaydon) as the Landrover tech centre sharing the compound. .

I am just thinking what fun it would be if this deal does go through...

Re: Mahindra buying Aston Martin? EDIT : Investindustrial is the new owner!

Aston Martin Reports £24.6 Million Loss.

The loss was reportedly caused by the market segment which “has been severely affected by recession” and the “weakness in European markets and vehicle launches occurring in the fourth quarter”. Last year, Aston Martin sales went down nine percent to 67,500 units from 110,000 vehicles in 2007.

Rumours are growing that Mercedes-Benz could buy Aston Martin

Quote:
Mercedes chief Dieter Zetsche did not rule out the possibility that his company, which already owns five per cent of Aston, might acquire the UK firm, although he did what he could to dampen the speculation that has been growing fast.
