Its "Maruti 1000" which used a 1000cc motor and not an esteem . Esteems have always used 1300cc(1.3L) engines right from 1994 when it was launched.

i think zen was a favourite with quite a few city drving people, but if maruti is coming with a new zen then they better keep in mind the old problems like less ground clearance zen had.

secondly they also should get back the old shape and look as the new one is very unattractive.

as they say old is gold, i say old with new is still better.

That is the most ewwwww design I have seen from Suzuki yet. Blech!

Interiors look cool. But why oh why is it an auto? And where is the tacho? Do they have an i-pod like control where you have to keep flipping through various display modes. Wait that is on the Mercs right?

It looks like a grinning donkey with its nostrils flared! The interiors are awesome though. Of course, the gearstick placement will have to be different when brought to India. This one's position reminds me of Toyota's hybrid.
In short, it looks like a grinning donkey, whose parents were the santro and the smart, and have great taste in interors. Highly doubt that the Indian version's interiors are gonna look like this though.

Godspeed.

The Ignis looks like an alto with a ski carrier on top of it. I hope it's not the ignis. Personally, I don't like its shape.
If they come out with a new zen, I'm pretty sure it would have some sort of resemblence to our present zen (even the mutated zen (zen classic) had a faint resemblence to its original!).
So I doubt it could be the ignis. Unless it was interpreted wrong and what they meant was maruti is coming out with a replacement for the zen and not a new zen!

Godspeed.

I believe its quite possible that every new design launched would be very close match with something already done before. But that way difficult to bring out an exceptional one in a short period.

Anyways most of the indian car buyer not sniff the net / auto mags to find out if it was a copy or close match..they will love it anyway..

Even if it is looking like old santro... it is again from Maruti.. so the obvious thinking will be that Maruti offers cheaper cars.. and their spares are cheap too..

It is difficult to create a brand and support centers everywhere which Maruti has already established.

Yeah, I noticed that too! However, it's very unlikely Maruti will stick to a 2-door version in India. The old Zen had a special edition 2 door (Carbon and Steel they were called, I think) and they hardly set the market on fire. Swift too has a 2-door version available in Europe.

Looks like this will be a whole new car--interesting times ahead from Maruti, it looks like; what with the new Zen coming, the Diesel Swift expected later this year and the sedan version of the Swift too supposedly in the pipeline!
