Rumours suggest that the car might debut in the Indian car market ( festive season)with a diesel engine while the petrol one will roll out at a later stage( end 2013).

The petrol variant of Cross Polo is expected to be provided with same engine as given Polo GT model, which clearly means it will get the same 4-cylinder 1.2-litre TSI engine, which gives away a power of 103 bhp along with a 175 Nm of torque. Besides, the engine is believed to be mated with a 7-speed automatic DSG transmission system developed by Volkswagen.

It is also said that the diesel variant of Cross Polo might get an all-new 1.5-litre engine that will be produced exclusively for its crossover model- 2014 release.

Seems car's have started reaching dealerships. ACI's got some spy pics too. I somewhat feel the wheels look too small to be 16-inchers. However, their design looks the same as the one seen on the Petrol Jetta. Anyway, here's the tweet

The CrossPolo also gets a different grille with a single slat and silver anodised roof rails where up to 75kg of luggage can be mounted and secured.

There is additional body cladding. The ride height is slightly increased and a thick, matte plastic band extends across the chin, the flanks and around the rear. The wheel arches get the same treatment and there’s a scuff plate with a dull silver finish.

Does it come with the 1.5 liter Diesel? If it does then I may consider this over EcoSport.

P.S. Just read it comes with the same 1.2 liter diesel. Too lame for the package.

When I asked about the petrol variant got to know there is no news on its launch atleast for this year since the GT TSI launched getting some good response..

I always thought (when VW launched the GT TSI) that cross polo with TSI engine offering would have been a fair good package with DSG offered as optional package.. and at this moment they would have instead planned for launching the much awaited Tiguan to compete against the Duster/Terrano (though its pricing is claimed to be somewhat more than both, maybe/but less than Yeti, VW could have worked out on it somehow for a sensible figure)

The crosspolo looks good as it is, but I personally feel if it was based on the famous MQB platform, the extra width it would have gained could have added more value to its size and overall package..

I for one do not feel that the Polo shape is meant to go with 'on the stilts' appearance. It looks best as a plain, simple, handsome hatch.

Though the final job does not look gaudy at least in the black car, I don't feel the Cross Polo would gain any road presence over the regular one. Also don't know how the neutral handling of normal polo would be carried over with increased ground clearance.

I think we have seen enough failures of these cross versions with palio, fabia..don't know if VW has a marketing plan in place for the model.

Off topic-If VW pull it off in creating the cross segment, will Maruti gain along with its sting Ray, guess it has similar positioning...sporty look and feel without mechanical changes

Cross Polo lauch is just a stop gap of entering the cross SUV market till the time the Taigun is scheduled to arrive in 2015/16.

A bigger Polo on the MQB platform will get into the Golf category, which does not make much sense. I believe even the next gen Polo will not be on the MQB.

I don't see a problem with the size of the CrossPolo, but they should look to launch it with better engine options to justify the segment they are targeting.

The Cross Polo will be available in one variant only – Highline Diesel. There will be no petrol on offer, at least initially. The Cross Polo will cost INR 65,000 more than the Polo TDI Highline (ex-Showroom prices).

MQB platform is the next generation VW platform which they have started rolling off in their new gen Golf , Skoda Octavia , Seat Leon etc . The specialty of this platform is that it can be used for cars from Polo to Passat.
So definitely the new gen polo will be on that platform but would not be as big as a Golf.
