Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

Spotted the Jeep test mules first reported by ACI @Magarpatta Road today. The short wheelbase Wrangler seemed to be a petrol (didn't sport the 'CRD' monicker). Seeing them in flesh for the first time, the road presence is indeed impressive! Pics taken from phone camera, apologies!

If Abarth is going to be launched in June, why aren't we seeing any test mules? Will they launch the Abarth Punto Evo or just the Grande Punto.

Fiat, please don't disappoint us this time!

Even if they simply plonk the T-Jet engine in the Punto, it will be a great buy, since I can get the engine tuned outside. Hot hatch means a hot engine. They should have done it earlier. Not sure what what going through their minds when they launched T-Jet in a sedan ??!!! If Punto was available with the T-Jet I would have bought it instead of the 90 HP. Performance means petrol and that is how Abarth should continue it's lineage, however since India is a heavily skewed Diesel market, horse sense might force FIAT to bring out oil burners with Abarth badge.

Guys, not sure how authentic the piece of information is but it is certainly very very encouraging. Linea T-jet will be back in a month's time.

Those of you who were brooding over not being able to get your hands on a Fiat Linea T-jet, here’s some news to cheer you up. Fiat is launching the updated Fiat Linea T-Jet in March 2013, with “new features and more value for money”, to quote a Fiat official spokesperson’s email response to a query by xxxx. The mail specifically asks Joy to wait till March end to book the new T-Jet.

I did expect some big announcement from Fiat in April as the JV b/w Tata and Fiat is getting over on March 27. Let's hope relaunch of T-jet helps Fiat get some good numbers for Linea.

I truly feel bad for FIAT, what could have been one of the most coveted brands in the Indian Auto motive scene, is now reduced to, well we all know.

But the most amazing thing in all this is that FIAT has still not given hope and I really don't think it should. I was browsing around the website and I for one feel that of all the so - so websites designed by other companies, this one really has a very modern and premium feel. I hope too in time more and more are attracted to the brand so they can again be where they once were in India.

An old hindi saying comes to mind - " Der aaye par durust aaye"

Good luck FIAT

IAB have today reported the re-launch of T-Jet from 1/April.

Quote:
The Fiat Linea T-Jet is the best driver’s cars on this side of Rs. 10 lakhs but the enthusiast-insensitive petrol price kept most C-Segment customers away from enjoying its spooling turbo since its launch in late 2010

However today we can confirm that Fiat India is planning to relaunch the Linea T-Jet to enhance its appeal on the face of intensifying competition.

Marius D’Lima, Head – Corporate Communications Fiat Group Automobiles India to Indian Autos Blog -

The new T-Jet launch is a model year change. It will be differently packaged and there will be no body changes. It will be available from the 1st of April.

The Linea T-Jet is powered by a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine which pumps out 113 bhp and an impressive 211 Nm of torque. The updated variant of the car is expected to get added features. Currently there is no top of the line Emotion variant in the petrol model lineup and the relaunched T-Jet can slot in as the top-end variant with equipment level at par with the diesel Emotion variant.

Fiat India announced plans last December to relaunch the Linea as the ‘Linea Classic’ this year. The repositioning exercise, like the launch of the T-Jet, may not witness changes to the car’s body panels. The ‘Classic’ may be a model year change, across all variants, for the year 2013.

Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

Any information on whether Fiat is planning to locally manufacture the T-jet engines this time? If they are planning to use the T-Jet extensively across various Fiat and Jeep models, it may be a good move and would help to keep the prices down.

Great news as far as i am concerned!! its a great car and i will pick up one the minute its relaunched provided nothing major has changed. One of the sites mentioned above reports additional features such as touch screen navigation system possibly coming in.

Other than engines, Fiat is also planning to locally manufacture Jeeps and Abarth Puntos. If Fiat makes this happen it will surely lead the market.

The new t-jet engine is also 1.4 ltr like its earlier version. But the new engine delivers 113bhp with 211Nm of torque. Whereas, the existing petrol engine delivers 90bhp with 115Nm of torque. This type of torque is similar to the existing Fiat's diesel engine.

The T-Jet always was 113 bhp & 211 Nm torque. The other engine is a naturally aspirated 1.4L FIRE (which also was existing). Even for T-Jet, there is NO change while re-introducing.

The changes will be in the interiors or in terms of features. Mechanically all options remain the same!

Small correction on the Tjet torque figures, its 207 NM torque and the 1.3 MJD VGT produces 209 NM Torque.

The power in the Tjet might be bumped up to 120PS. But still wondering with the new generation slated to have 1.4 Tjet. How good is it plonk this one in the current one. Unless they get Multiair 165 PS version of the Tjet in the new generation Linea, this one does not seem to be a good idea.
