Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

New 2013 Punto & Linea Refresh launch is near.

Quote:
Fiat will launch both these cars on 3rd of April.
The life cycle of these refreshes will not be too long and the current Linea will be rebranded as Linea Classic towards the end of this year to make way for the New Linea which will come with 1.6L MultiJet diesel engine.

I hope that the Punto T-Jet is made available as an option for this model refresh.

Of course, this will never happen.

Externally, I don't think that there will be too many big changes, considering that the new Punto (Evo?) is slated for launch early next year.

Punto Tjet wont be made available. The Abarth will come with these engines.

Punto Evo is slated for launch late next year after the new generation Linea is launched. The current facelift or model change whatever it is called might be branded as Punto Classic. Not sure if EVO will ever get launched (not Abarth though).

Did you guys see the Auto Car website for the new Jeep Cherokee that is bound to come here by 2015 (mini SUV is what they call.. but it looks big). I am awestruck with its design. If this is what they will bring here in 2015/16.. My money is on the table. Will buy it without thinking twice. They say it will be positioned as a C Segment SUV.

I am already excited!!

This plan was revealed during their 06-Dec-12 press meet. But, I doubt if they are ready with the design and even if they are ready, I doubt they would share that with Autocar at this point of time.

Mr. Atanasio talks

- Fiat India’s research and development (R&D) team would contribute significantly in the Italian car maker’s programme to design and develop its alliance partner Chrysler’s smallest Jeep, to be launched globally in mid-2014.

- The Fiat Group is investing Euro 1 billion in developing two new products at it facility in Melfi, Italy. Apart from the small Jeep (likely to be named ‘Jeepster’ or ‘Scamp’), the company is working on another crossover vehicle, based on the 500X platform.

- Enrico Atanasio, managing director, Fiat Group Automobiles India Private Limited, said, “Massive market research would be done from the next quarter for the product (Jeepster) in India.

- Mr. Atanasio adds, "We are looking at leveraging India as an export hub for right-hand drive models. We have excess capacity in India and are looking at exporting vehicles from here to markets in the UK, Japan, Australia, South Africa."

- The Italian company has also commissioned an R&D set-up, Chrysler India Automotive Private Limited, in Chennai. Engineers at this facility would work towards launching a B-segment sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India in 2015. It would be manufactured in Ranjangaon.

- Apart from the Jeepster, Fiat would also introduce a C-segment SUV from the Chrysler portfolio in 2016. Fiat would also launch a compact SUV in the second half of 2014.

- It would also establish 20 exclusive showrooms for Jeep-branded products by the year-end.

- Fiat plans to sell 11,000-12,000 units in India this year and double the sales in 2014.

No they haven't shared with Auto Car exclusively sir. But the new Cherokee's design is out already and it is also there in Tbhp International Threads.. (heading reads something like replacement for Jeep Liberty).. Unfortunately, our forum members dont like the design too much..

But I like it and will own it for sure once it comes here. My next SUV almost decided!!

Go specialist and go alone. That's Fiat Group's new mantra for India as the company tries, once again, to crack the world's seventh-largest car market - India.

Quote:

Rather than launch a new model in the cheap, small car segment that dominates India and is ruled by Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki, Fiat plans to tap into fast-growing areas such as SUVs and sporty cars. It will bring its Chrysler Jeep SUV brand to the country this year and build a small version of the car there by 2015, as well as take aim at the higher end of the market with Abarth, the sports version of its 500 and Punto models

Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

I don't think that the new Cherokee just launched in the NY Auto Show is Jeep's future C segment offering. The engine options at launch seem to be close to the Wrangler's (2.4 L and 3.2L V6 petrols). The Fiat India presentation slide from many posts back states that the C-SUV will be powered by the 1.4 Turbo-petrol and the 1.6 MJD engines.

This monster seems to be too large to be powered by those engines. Also, it looks like a ~25 lakh Rs. vehicle. That's the estimated price quoted by ACI in their latest issue.

The Cherokee would most likely sit just below the Wrangler in the D-segment and compete with the CR-V.

Oh, and I think it looks great, both inside and out.

Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

FIAT has no plans to be a volume player, and aims at a modest 5% market share in 2014 from the current 0.3%.

Quote:
Fiat-Chrysler together plan to launch nine new or refreshed models in the coming years to expand the Italian automaker’s presence in the Indian car market. They have no plans to launch products in the entry-level segment, which is ruled by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in India. Fiat will instead launch upgraded versions of the Punto hatchback and Linea sedan, on the 3rd of April. The carmaker is planning to have 112 independent dealerships in India by March 2014, aiming at a 5 percent market share.

The fact that a 5% market share will make them the fourth largest manufacturer by volumes in India shows that Fiat's aspirations are pretty high for someone planning not to become a volumes player.

With current market size hovering around 2.5 million units, 5% of it translates to roughly around 1.25 lakhs per year. Thats atleast around 6-7 times the volumes that they are doing currently. An ambitious target indeed without car that would give them volumes.

With the year 2015, that they are targeting, it will be interesting to see how much they can achieve with the product portfolio they have planned for the next 2 years. The Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler will not a volume churner for FIAT and neighter with be the Abarth.

Anyone with any information on the Tjet , things have been quiet since mid feb when there was a buzz about the model being brought back , spoke to a saled guy in Delhi who was under the impression that it was not going to be out till end of the year , somewhere else there was a date of 3rd April floating around. Nothing up on the fiat website yet - wondering if they might have postponed given the Amaze launch coming up?

The sales rep seems to be unaware. The Vecto Sales rep and a couple of other sources confirmed Tjet coming in multiple variants in April. The dates that are floating around are 3rd and the 10th. Will have to wait and see what transpires.

I dont see a reason for FIAT to postpone the Tjet's Launch due to Amaze as they compete in different segments.

Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

Thanks for the information , lets hope its sooner than later. My point on the Amaze was actually , and i should have clarified this , from an advertising point of view - i am expecting other companies such as GM/ Maruti to be fairly aggressive in pushing their products once the Amaze is out - this can typically lead to media getting expensive and/or the space cluttered - so fiat might have to spend more to stand out , or alternatively there is a chance that their money might not stretch as much so to speak!
