Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

FIAT has to carve out a niche for itself to succeed in the Indian Market similar to Hyundai, Renault etc. It is surprising that in spite of having the best diesel technology they are not able to fully unlock its value. A Punto diesel AT would have been a hard combination to beat. Wonder what took so long for FIAT to wake up.

Tjet is definitely not out. The reason why it is stopped for now is the petrol prices are high and the India is primarily a high diesel demand market. (though still cant digest fact, there are still enthusiasts who would buy but not in high numbers)

Punto will get the EVO version in late 2013. About Linea, the new model will be launched with 1.6 mjd/1.4 Tjet, and the current Linea in all probability will continue with a few changes both interior and exterior as Linea Classic.

But whatever it is, their primary focus is getting the sales and service network up and running by March 2013.

And, Abarth is definitely coming. I expect the Punto and 500 Abarth with the twin air Tjet versions, though Mr. Enrico did not commit anything on the model and variants.

Would love Fiat to bring Alpha Romeo, simply love the A159 front.

Alfa Romeo don't make the 159 anymore, its being replaced with the "Guilia", due late 2014.

Agreed they have one of the best diesels around. To get the diesel auto out, the cost is the major factor. Forget the autobox, even the Euro spec gearbox is yet to make it here due to cost. The autobox diesel punto will outprice itself in the market and will end up with no takers. However, I believe the Punto evo that would be launched in late 2013 or early 2014 will have the Eurospec gearbox, multijet 2 and Auto box might appear too. But pricing is a big question mark.

Secondly, they should not share the multijet 2 series engines with any other manufacturers which in turn will give a technological advantage to FIAT. But will they use it to their advantage is anybody's guess.

Speculation :-

That the Punto successor could be renamed ‘Pandona’ and its production shifted from its plant in Melfi, Italy to its Serbian factory in Kragujevac.

Autocar India Jan edition (pg 19) states that the Abarth Punto may be launched for an affordable price tag of 6-8 lakhs ex-showroom (as its going to be locally assembled)

If we are talking of 8L pricepoint, our version of the Abarth should be something like this ;

T-Jet Engine + Larger wheels (may be 16"ers) + BodyKit & some Abarth Logos at the front and back & not to forget the funky paintjob.

I think it is possible to give such a hot hatch @ 8L Ex-showroom

Yes, it will not be a true Abarth but hey the Punto was always a great handling car, it always demanded a more powerful engine & IMO thats what we'l get

I feel @ 8L with the 1.4 T-Jet Punto would be a steal, where as a true blue Abarth Punto wouldnt be any less than a price tag of 15L ex-showroom IMO

Re: Fiat's India strategy revealed. Abarth, Jeep, new Linea & Punto coming. More insi

6L price tag for Abarth Punto seems wishful thinking, since even the existing 1.4 Emotion version retails for nearly 6.7L ex-showroom. I guess Abarth version would mean imported engine, gearbox and probably suspension components. I think a price difference of 2-2.5L over the 1.4 Emotion should be expected. With that in mind, Rs.9-10L (ex-showroom) pricing may be possible for the Abarth Punto.

They must have wrongly mentioned "Evo" as "Abarth"

I hope so too. Manufacturers have done this to us too many times. Just paste stickers all over the car and sell it as a sports model. However, from Mike Manley's interview, I think he was serious about introducing Abarth as a faster and sportier brand.

Yep. A T-Jet under the Punto's hood will be Abarth enough for us. The full fledged Abarth Punto may be too costly. Not to mention its a two-door. A regular four-door will be much more usable.

A 1.0 ecoboost ecosport first, then followed by the the news of a Polo 1.2 TSI and now a 1.4 T-jet punto???

At last 2013 seems to be worth waiting for.

Making Abarth models here will be a good brand strategy, but thinking that it will be offered between 6 - 8 Lakhs is being too optimistic
