Fiat to launch crossover next year - could it be a 'Cross- Punto'?

The crossover will be first of its kind model launch by the Italian company in India.

Quote:
The crossover will be locally made at the Ranjangaon facility, jointly owned by Fiat and Tata Motors. The model will be a mix of a hatchback and a sport utility vehicle. It will have a 'considerable' local content and will likely sport the same compact diesel engine that powers the Punto.
Fiat had initially planned to launch the Jeep brand in India in September this year. However, rupee depreciation and adverse market conditions dissuaded the company against it. The company intends to bring the Jeep Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler into the local markets.

With a GC of 195mm (on the 1.2 petrol), I guess the existing Punto already qualifies as a "Cross Punto"!

Jokes apart, I hope it's not another meaningless variant on the Punto. Fiat should just look at the pathetic response that the VW Cross Polo and the Škoda Fabia Scout deservedly got from the market.

I hope it is the Fiat 500X they're talking about, but I don't have high hopes on this one coming so soon.

Going by the time frame of launch in 2014, most probably as reports indicate it tends be the 'Cross Punto'!

Cheers!

Why can't it be the Panda? Should be a good addition to the Fiat line-up.

Panda localization and development and productionaizing would be challenging for a 2014 release.

Anyways reports indicate it would be a CrossPunto!

The above article mentions a new Punto in the first half of 2014, whereas an earlier article mentioned somewhere around Nov 2014. Can anyone please confirm ?

That's a really bad makeover of the Punto. If it does get launched here it won't serve any purpose. It will suffer the same fate as the Polo cross concept.

In fact it spoils the otherwise elegant shape of the car. There's no sense in changing the inherent styling of Punto.

Fiat will just end up spending unnecessary cash in marketing and promoting this.

Sorry FIAT, the body kit is eerily similar to the Pontiac Aztek. That car was voted in some polls as the ugliest car ever built.

Why would you take a beautiful car and make it wear the clothes of the ugliest car ever built?

Please FIAT. Don't do this to the Punto?

That Cross-Punto pic looks like an artists impression. Somebody has been busy with paint or photoshop or some such software. The body-kit appears to be a cut-paste job on a pic of a yellow Punto.

Zigwheels has posted news on Fiat linea.

ZIGWHEELS

It looks nothing like the model that has been speculated in this thread (a.k.a The Turkey linea). The Viaggio if it comes will be an affordable Maserati, I mean look at it, it looks likes the Maserati's Quattroporte had an affair and the kid grew up in the bronx. It looks good!

Don't know where they got this picture from unless this is a speculative rendering of a future Linea, but the facelift in 2014 will be the Turkey version, there's no doubt about that. The report says exactly the same thing.

The picture is of the Fiat Viaggio. This car is based on the Dodge Dart and is manufactured and sold in China. Some more information on the same is available here

New Fiat plan sees Punto dumped !

Quote:
The Fiat Punto - long a brand staple - will be replaced by a five-door version of the 500. That mass-market model will be built in Poland to save costs and boost profit margins, the sources said. A Fiat representative declined to comment on the company’s European strategy.
