About Service Experience
Finally, I did my 45K major service at Rudra Motors, Wagholi. My experience was good. All the items were taken care well. Washing quality was good. Overall a good experience. It was not crowded day being a weekday. Total cost of the service was 12K. This included horn repair (high pitched replacement), Glow Plug replacement in addition to regular service bit.
My main gripe with Fiat India now is - they don't have any service center in the main Pune (one is in Akurdi and another one is Wagholi - which is not actually in Pune Municipal limits)!

Fiat's Ranjangaon plant will make SUV's. Bets on brand Jeep for India.

While preparing to launch the Compass in India, it will also cater to manufacturing the Compass for all RHD markets.

In the coming years (?) FCA plans to introduce 2 more affordable C/SUV for India challenging the current leaders in that segment.

So it's curtains for Brand "Fiat" in India! Fiat's chief Marchionne states it's hard for Fiat to "re-live" its history in India!

So the emphasis seems to be on Jeep, and my guess is they have pretty much given up the dream of being a volume player since Jeep will make vehicles primarily in the 15-30 lakh segment ( Localised Renegade and Compass ).

From what I have seen, Fiat has not manufactured many Puntos or Lineas in 2017. Seems like the curtain is really down on the Punto/Linea. Current stock position is as below.

Whatever strategy Fiat makes for India, it will invariably fail after initial hoopla thanks to poor execution and they achieve the inevitable.

I'm getting a feeling that urban cross itself was launched as a way to liquidate existing inventory of Puntos. Cosmetically different but the fundamentals remain the same. I don't see why Fiat would have conceived Urban cross as a long term prospect since they would have known that Fiat is going to exit India as a brand this year.

That is how Fiat works, they invest on something knowing it wont be used up anywhere

But on a serious note, its seriously perplexing how can a company can repeatedly make crazy decision which keep failing all the time.

No. They wouldn't do that. They would drag it along as they've always done, while trying to get profits out of Jeep and engine sales to compensate for this loss.

I hope FIAT do not exit as a brand and hope against hope that they will refocus and try to be a niche player (which, seems highly unlikely though).

As much I loathe Fiat's so called 'strategy', it is quite disheartening to see them exit. They have great cars. The punto doesn't look out of place even after so many years in the market. I really hope they do re-live their history in India, but that would require rock-solid focus on selling cars, not engines.

I think they have already decided to do so, why would they almost stop production of the linea and the punto? I just feel they are waiting to open some Jeep dealerships, launch the compass and then call it a day for Fiat. Don't see any other way out. Dealers would be incurring huge losses if there are no cars to sell.

But the 1.4L engine is such a winner! I've driven it and it is absolutely fantastic. Waiting for a raise to be able to afford one (despite its niche, risky proposition)

We've had 3 Fiats in the household - 2 Padminis and 1 Linea.
I wanted the first car from my salary to also be a fiat, an exciting one this time...

This is a smart move - kill the brand which was on life-support anyway and invest in a brand you own but is unknown to the Indian market. If Jeep is used exclusively for SUVs, they can use either Chrysler or Dodge for their sedans and hatchback offerings.

They did gamely try to revive the brand, but at some point you must know it isn't happening. Their cars were like tanks and when the Linea was launched in that segment, it was eons ahead of anything the competition offered.

Dealers saying no information of fiat cars being discontinued. How much to trust them is an altogether different topic. Jeep is still a few months away & fiat could certainly keep making and selling cars with available punto & linea kits in their hands. Great time to buy as discounts are at an all time high. Think I should have waited for this time instead of booking the car in January.
