GM has major plans for developing India into a supply base for various components. Those plans are really really big.

Therefore I think they only make cars here to pass time. Their real interest is in sourcing cheap components for other operations worldwide.

I believe the sole purpose of GM acquiring Daewoo auto was to reuse/rebadge their cars as one of the GM brands. Even otherwise, if you observe, more and more cars are now sharing the same platform across brands. For example the Opel Zafira and the Suzuki Wagon R share the same platform the two companies derive various benefits out of this collaboration.

Like it was mentioned in this thread, GMI never got their pricing right because the cars they initially came in with were pure breed Opel cars with German technology and hence positioning was done for the higher end of each segment. They settled for older generation models and getting the latest Corsa or Vectra meant even higher prices. Sales never was great and hence they have now changed their strategy to bring in relatively cheaper but reasonably well built cars and the best option is the GMDAT (GM Deawoo Automotive Tech) rebadged under the Chevrolet brand.

The point to be noted here is that Daewoo cars undergo some amount of Chevrolet styling to reach a certain level of sophistication before they are launched in the market. Daewoo cars are not all that bad or are they?? Never had a Daewoo car

Shocked that I'd not put my 2 paise in . Here goes:

GM India has only enough money to influence 3 auto mags and 4 PR agencies; not enough to make the Indian consumers buy their products. Wow - I'm smart

Too expensive for GM.
They've spent all their money on buying off these auto magazines.

i completely agree.
That is the main reason why they are setting up their new plant in ranjangaon, near Pune. Pune and suburbs have largest number of automotive parts manufacturing units of small scale and this is the source GM wants to tap into.

I wish they could make much better vehicles than what are available right now..

General Motors should take a good look at their marketing strategy, their cars, their pricing and the overall image o ftheeir company in India.(not necessarily in that order). They make the worst looking cars, the most fuel un-efficient cars, the most pricy in their range backed up with the worst marketing strategy to sell their cars, which also includes their oh so Aaarrggghh ads. I remember they having priced the optra outrageously high and then coming up with some price slashed horrific limited edition models (horrific for those who paid full price for their cars only to find out a few days later, a much more loaded version of their model was available for a much lesser price)
Remember the opel Vectra.....great car , bad prices, worst equipped, and no spares available. The last of the lot were sold at a near 50% price cut.
None of the cars they bring out have a "grab u by the collar for attention" kinda styling

Chevrolet Aveo extend contract with Rani Mukherjee,Saif Ali

GM India has extended its commitment for endorsing the Chevrolet Aveo carlines with the dynamic duo of Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan. Rani and Saif will continue to remain the Brand Ambassadors for the Chevrolet Aveo sedan and the recently launched hatchback, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA.

The Aveo carlines comprising of the Aveo sedan and the U-VA hatchback are new generation cars with class leading performance, amazing looks, style and great mileage. Hence we were looking at ambassadors who not only connect emotionally with the audience today but also embody the two dimensions of performance and aesthetics, substance and style plus class and exuberance. The search had brought us to Saif and Rani, two new generation and very successful stars of recent times. Together they have dramatised the superiority of the Aveo carlines over the competition and have brought alive the positioning of the Aveo and U-VA as an embodiment of great performance and immaculate aesthetics. We believe the brand and the personalities have derived mutual benefit from the association in the past and hence we continue with their endorsement of the Chevrolet Aveo carlines, going forward.” said Ankush Arora, Vice President – Sales, Marketing and After Sales, General Motors India.
At least it is fun to read.

Hmm..the onyl way they can gain decent numbers is through the soon-to-be-launched Aveo CDX. Most of the Aveos I see around me are corporate purchases though.

Apart from Corsa range I dont think any of their cars can be termed ugly. Both Aveo , Optra and SRV lead their respective segment as far as design is concerned. The problem with them is shoddy gearbox, stupid engines compared to what others are offering in the market.

Optra + sorted out gear box + Common rail locomotive engine + Slighly better interiors(which looks happening after having a a look at the spy pic)= 9 lacs is an awesome segment cracker.

Aveo , same problem as Optra ......but interiors are awesome in this case.

Yuva simply doesnt have any outstanding feature be it design or powertrain or interiors or build quality maybe to an extent its spacious but for the price it nothing special.

SRV - no comments .....in one word its stupid of them to think that indians are going to by it for 8 lacs

Tavera will contiue doing small numbers. It has that taxi look which is not a helping feature. And to be used as a taxi I heard its quite expensive on maintenence. So basically its a taxi looking Innova .

Problem with GM is that they expect people to volunteer to get robbed
I was really disappointed with launch of U-va..

I doubt if i ll see it on the road unless they do something about its pricing

People know that its a korean car except for the Chevy badge that they have put up.(i am not against these korean cars) but i expect them to be VFM cars as they dont have much to talk about their legacy...

I wish the bosses of GM get to read this and really think about reducing its price.(i feel all its variants should easily be reduced by abt 30K+)
