Hi on NH-8 yesterday spotted this car. Had a TC number plate.
It was covered with all black tape. The hood of car has air intake bracket also.

Any idea on which car is this?
Isn't the wheel design similar to new Swift alloys.

This is the SX4 cross which was showcased in the last Auto show. There is a thread already live discussing on this car.

Now I am fully confused.

My understanding was that Ciaz is to replace SX4.

Another sedan to sit in between Ciaz and DZire? Then is Maruti trying to position Ciaz above the current SX4 and City?

Or, this new sedan based on the next generation Swift? And this news about the new sedan is all about the next gen DZire?

My guess is as follows:

Ciaz will replace current SX4.
The new sedan based on Swift (next gen DZire) to be around 4250mm in length, and will sit under Ciaz.
A new smaller sub 4m sedan based on Celerio will take the place of DZire.

There could also be a sedan based on the new YRA hatchback that Maruti is planning to launch in 2017. Maybe that sedan would sit between the Dzire and Ciaz, and Ciaz would sit a segment higher depending on the market response in 2016-2017.

So, maybe the line-up would look something like this:
1. Sub 4m sedan based on the Celerio
2. Dzire(may or may not be based on new generation Swift)
3. Sedan version of the YRA hatchback
4. Ciaz(might be offered only with the more powerful 1.6L engines)

But, as you said its really confusing
Would be better to wait for more concrete news regarding these cars.

I had read this news yesterday on OD so had created a new one. You can find it below, but it is closed till there is some concrete news on it.

The news says, the sedan will be based on 2016 Swift and will be positioned between the Swift and Ciaz and would serve as a replacement to the SX4.

Maruti plans 12 new cars for the next 5 years. SX4 cross for 2015, XA alpha based compact SUV for 2016 and the article even claims the new Vitara is in the pipeline.

Man, this mini Vitara from Suzuki looks chic!

Understand that the actual production starts only in 2015. So I think a fair expectation would be to have it in India by 2016.

2018 would be late, who's seen 4 years from now!

All plans for SUVs like S-Cross, XA-Alpha, Vitara and this new crossover, but no launches till now.

Maruti's CUV (< 4m) currently that was spied (Maruti iV-4) is speculated to have design cues from the New Vitara.

This Cuv is the Ecosport rival whereas S cross will take on Duster/Terrano.

As such the New Vitara is not expected to be launched here any time here.
