Maruti Suzuki plans a slew of crossovers/ SUV's. Will take on XUV and also plans a cuv below Vitara Brezza.

The automaker is developing a large SUV, positioned above the compact Vitara Brezza to take on the likes of the Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV 500, five people aware of the plans told ET. The vehicle is being developed on Suzuki’s Fifth Generation C Platform and is scheduled to go into production in 2020.
Quote:
Part of it is an SUV-styled hatchback, codenamed Y1K, which maymake the entry in 2019 to take on the Renault Kwid. The company is also studying a separate architecture that could spawn out a small SUV and a hatchback.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

It is high time for players like Mahindra to wake up and smell the coffee, or in keeping with the times, should I say "Covfefe"?

If we look at this article from last September's Financial Express, The Vitara Brezza sold an impressive 31,930 units in April-July versus 17,832 units of the Bolero, 15,436 units of the Scorpio, 16,050 units of the KUV100.

And this is with the Vitara Brezza as a diesel-only model. With petrol cars seeing an increasing amount of acceptance in the market, I can only imagine the volumes that the Brezza will swell to with the addition of a petrol powerplant.

Time for Mahindra to bring out, compact, modern, urbane SUVs. Can't wait for Hyundai's response - maybe we'll see the Carlino concept and the Kona on Indian roads sooner.

More on the SUV from Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to add an extra row of seats( 7 seat) to the current Global Vitara for a launch in late 2019/2020. To go on sale at its premium outlet NEXA.

It is believed that Maruti could add a third row to the global Vitara and launch it in India to compete with larger SUVs including Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa.

Highly unlikely with the current global Vitara which measures 4175 mm in length. Suzuki has to extend the Vitara's length to do that. And that may be the reason they are taking this much time (2020 launch!) to launch it.

Was waiting for this query and here is my reply.

The new 7 seat SUV will be the next Gen Grand Vitara and will be a Global product ( see link) with most of the design cues retained from the smaller Vitara.
As of the current trend of recycling names, Suzuki is likely to call this as Grand Vitara.

Maruti Suzuki India will not hold back in electric vehicle segment.

As soon as we can determine the customer preference we will come up with such models. In the meantime, focus will be to increase fuel efficiency (in current models) and bring in new technologies

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti Suzuk's speculated upcoming portfolio.

- Suzuki Jimny to arrive in 2018, manufactured exclusively by Maruti Suzuki India in Gurgaon. Exports would be to the UK, Japan, Brazil and other markets where the aged current model is still available. Suzuki's 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol unit should be the standard engine.

-Maruti is said to be planning to add build of the Celerio at its Hansalpur Plant 1 in Gujarat. The car itself, which is codenamed YL7, should have a facelift in 2018 and be replaced in 2021. The next generation Celerio should change platforms to Heartect.

-The eventual ALTO replacement model, which should appear in 2020, might become a crossover rather than a hatchback.

- The (1.0-litre) Alto K10 was added in 2014 and is based on the Alto 800. It too should have a successor in 2020.

- Wagon R replacement due 2020/21.

-Maruti Suzuki's Ignis is likely to be one of the first models to be fitted with the company's own 1.5-litre diesel engine. This is not expected to be ready until 2018.

- The next generation Ignis is due in 2021, which would be three years after the current model is facelifted. It will also be based on the Heartect architecture.

- The Baleno is due for a facelift in the second quarter of 2018. The next generation model should be on sale in Japan during the fourth quarter of 2021

-Vitara Brezza -Suzuki's own 1.5-litre diesel should replace the Fiat unit in 2018. After that, the next update for the Brezza should be a facelift in 2019. There will probably also be a hybrid powertrain. . Petrol variant will appear in 2018.
A battery-electric variant should feature too although there is a chance that a Brezza EV might appear in 2019 or 2020 as part of the post-facelifted current generation model.

The second generation Vitara Brezza will also be based on Heartect, although this will be an evolution of that platform. This is due for release in 2023

- Ciaz successor in 2020/21.

-The next generation S-Cross is due to appear in 2020 but there might well be a second facelift for the existing model in 2018.

- Y9T, the Omni successor, is expected to be launched in India during early 2018. Production should be at Gurgaon.

-Eeco - This little RWD van should be replaced by a new Eeco in 2019

- YJC- A new MPV or Stretched 7 seat Wagon R ? might be either the next Eeco or instead an additional MPV. YJC should be revealed at the next Auto Expo in New Delhi during the first quarter of 2018.

- Ertiga replacement should appear, underpinned by an updated Heartect architecture - 2020

- Grand Vitara - ??

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

With due respect to Volkman, I think MSIL's upcoming portfolio would be different with a likely rollout plan being:
-Swift in early 2018
- New Wagon-R and New Ertiga somewhere in late 2018 or Q1 2019
- New Alto K10 in 2019 or early 2020
- Facelift of Celerio would slot in between somewhere
- Post 2020, after BS VI, is where the action would be with new power trains coming in. And knowing Suzuki, they would definitely link facelift to power train upgrades. My guess would be they would start with Brezza and Ciaz.
- In the meantime, as reported elsewhere, the 1.5L gasoline / diesel engines would mark their entry with Ciaz to be followed by Dzire and Brezza respectively. From what I hear both engines are ready to be adapted for BS VI as well.
- On the electrification front, the real fun would start post 2023 after CAFE norms kick in.
- In the Post 2020 period, SCross should lead the model overhaul list, followed by Brezza, Baleno, Ignis and Swift family.
- I haven't heard of an Indian Jimny in the works but even if it is then I guess it won't hit the markets within next 5 years.

The spanner in the works is the Toyota link and what ramifications it has on Maruti product plan.

So grand vitara is not in the scheme of things for India?
Looks like MSIL is happy getting the volumes and not keen for any premium cars.

There, they are! During the development of Brezza, I remember Mr. C.V.Raman saying they had to heavily modify the Swift platform. But when the vehicle came out, they said it is the global C-platform. Now, suzuki moving its swift-based cars to heartect platform and this news pops in, I've better clarity.

Will it be the 2.0 L Fiat Multijet engine? Or will it be the 1.6L Fiat Multijet that will be localized for the Renegade?

In any case, Maruti has only tied up with Fiat locally for 1.3 Multijet engines. We should expect some announcements on this front soon
