Yup. That was my conclusion too. Waiting for a test drive now. Read some reviews of the Malaysian spec Toyota Altis. It looks identical to the one displayed at the Auto Expo, except there is a choice of a 2.0l engine. Reviews are quite positive on the whole! Looking forward to seeing it IRL for the first time.

Ruled out the Etios since reading about the lesser sound insulation. Ruled out the Vento/Rapid for being a bit old now, and for being a bit stiff in the rear seat.
Verna was ruled out because its costs as much as the cars from the class above, and features aren't that important from the rear seat. Comfortable in the city though.
Jetta/Octavia has me convinced me, but the after sales make me have second thoughts...
Did you try Sunny? You might save a few lakhs and also might have an edge with the FE (for diesel). But it will be two segments below the Corolla.

To be honest, I didn't consider too many cars from that segment. "Unusual" looks apart, the Sunny seems to be a decent car. I will have another look at some reviews and ownership's as well. My father did want to downsize initially, but didn't want to compromise on quality and reliability.

Also, the touch screen infotainment system on the new Corolla looks quite aftermarket, and not very well integrated. The European cars have a smaller touchscreen, but much better integration. Looks neater!

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

I sat inside the new corolla at Mumbai Airport day before yesterday as they had displayed the car there. The interiors are roomier but the quality inside seems to be a level down. The dashboard especially isn't great quality or brilliantly designed. The car was a top spec one and it didn't have a rear AC vent !! Now explain this Toyota? How can that have been skipped? Your Corolla is mostly used as a Chauffeur driven can in India
The Exterior is stunning and the car looks tight. No unnecessary body curves like the Elantra.
Overall the car was a tad disappointing as i feel the new CITY in VX offers more for the money. The new Corolla will be at least 4 L above the CIty VX.

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

Are rear a.c vents really that practical and provide so much better cooling than just having front vents in a car like corolla? Its not a 7 seater and i've never been in the rear of a car that has rear a.c vents hence my question.

And effective a.c like in my ecosport seems to work brilliantly even at the rear when its 36deg already.

Also, i just can't seem to get over how "not nice" the front now looks. Etios never had a nice face and the new corolla borrowing something from its junior sibling seems like a bad move to me.

A brochure giving details of the different variants of the 2014 Corolla Altis and the features that will be incorporated into them has made its way to the internet.

Where exactly did you catch that? Didn't know Altises were driving around yet! Going to make some calls at Nandi Toyota and see if Test Drives are available yet.

Bangalore Club - it was parked in the dark, I would not have noticed at it but I thought why does that Etios have so much chrome

Its almost sad to see Toyota bulk up the safety features list with things like reverse camera/sensors and variable wipers. For the money they charge, they should be ashamed to offer a safety feature list poorer than a segment lower.
