Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

The guys over at paultan.org have put up a neat little pictorial comparo between the current-gen Corolla Altis and the new-gen one, scheduled to be unveiled/launched at next month's Auto Expo.

The interior is following the same crazy theme as the new Honda City. What's gone wrong with the design sense of the Japs?

I want the interiors of the next gen with the exteriors of the current gen. Except for the side profile (which looks very BMW F30'ish), I am NOT finding the exteriors to be better than the current "Classic" Corolla.

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

I don't like the changes to the interiors or the exteriors. Apart from the following, is there any other real change:
- extended wheelbase leading to more interior space and slightly higher weight
- phone controls on the steering
- some tweaks to suspension but the same MAcPherson Strut/Torsion Beam setup
- reverse camera (available as an official accessory even now)

For 1.8 automatic, it appears to be the same engine (2ZR-FE) and the same 7-speed CVT with a new sports mode.

Anything important I am missing? I am likely to make the purchase within the next few days, hence it will be good to get some advice.

Offtopic:
I don't like all black interiors of cruze and the funky elantra. Since I am looking for a rather staid car, I might have to go for Octavia (and its service!) if I miss the current-gen altis. Of course, no one buys a fluence in India

I get a feeling that the Japanese are going the Hyundai way, going by the new Honda and Toyota designs. Classic and understated is no more the theme.

I think the Octy looks understated and this current gen Altis is really very nice looking. So is the Fluence. Sadly it is an under-rated vehicle.

If the news in Economic times is to be believed then Toyota Motors has stopped the production of Altis with immediate effect to make way for the launch of all new Toyota Corolla.

The new Toyota corolla will be launched in the upcoming Auto Expo and will be available in the market from April 2014 onwards.

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

Finally, black/grey interiors are here, good riddance to the yucky beige. Let us see if the same makes it to the production models. Love the dash design and overall stance of the car.

The only thing that I do not like and this is not exclusive to the new Corolla, is the headlamp design wherein the DRLs or the parking lamps are placed on the inner sides rather than along the outer edge. Not only does this look oddball, it gives an incorrect perception of the vehicle's width especially during hours of low ambient light. Wonder why this cockeyed layout is becoming increasingly popular.

Malaysia always had the option of black interiors. Doubtful if that will be the case with the Indian variants. For us it maybe still the so-called luxury of beige and faux wood

Toyota India stops Corolla Altis production

Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited has stopped CKD assembly of the Corolla Altis D-Segment sedan.

The upcoming 2014 Corolla sedan’s engine and transmission line up with largely remain the same save for the CVT automatic gearbox which gets a boost in fuel efficiency.

The 2014 Corolla – the 11th generation version of the best selling car gets a 75 mm increase in terms of wheelbase. The larger wheelbase gives the car additional space on the inside. The car’s interiors will get a comprehensive revamp, with a new dashboard and instrumentation cluster.

Re: Toyota India stops Corolla Altis production

Having owned two current gen Altis's for the past 4 years, I am keen to upgrade to the new one as def looks like worthy generational change.

However I hope they change the engine and provide a turbo charged petrol to deliver better FE. Currently the 4 speed autobox with the 1.8 petrol engine delivers a poor 7kmpl. The Superb with the DSG and 1.8TSi delivers a better FE inspite of it's size and weight.
Another problem I am hoping they rectify in the new Altis is the brakepad issue in the automatics. My car has done 35k kms and all brakepads and discs have been changed twice already! I had a similar issue in our Honda Accord too. The germans are much better in this aspects as their brakepads last twice as long(Our BMW and Superb's brakepads have lasted for 30k kms)

The new engine with dual vvti was mated to a brand new 7 step cvt box which had very good fuel efficiency. Even the manual was changed to 6 speed.

I don't think you need turbo and all that direct injection for a car like altis. It's mainly chauffeur driven and it's best to keep it simple.

Re: Toyota India stops Corolla Altis production

the 11th generation corolla Is designed new from the ground up and is much bolder than what some conservative corolla loyalists must have expected it to be..why corolla did not sell like city (similar bullet proof reliability strong points) was its bland styling, IMO. The new corolla looks futuristic n if priced right (yes we will pay the brand premium for toyota) will be a strong contender in D1 or even D2 segment

Completely agree, the target market for Altis is the chauffeur driven owners. Creative comforts for passengers will be more important than a turbocharged direct injection motor.

The facelift looks quite good in pictures than the current ones on sale.

From the pictures it looks like Altis is going to get the steering lifted straight from the Etios. As an owner of Etios for 40K + kms, i can vouch for the amazing to hold and look steering.
