The duster in the video is definitely a 4x4. you can clearly see the 4wd badge in the video. Also the way rear wheel rotates indicates that it is powered.

I am not sure how someone, whaterver their driving skills are, could have got a Front Wheel Drive out of this situation. There are several times when one of the front wheels is in the air and without any sort of locking differential there is no way you get traction down to the wheels

My Two Cents

Its good news for sure! I have been eyeing the Storme for some time now, and if news around this hots up, then I may be inclined to wait to take a look.

I saw a couple of more videos for Duster 4x4 and the one below was really something. Could an XUV 5OO or Storme do this?
It looked more like he was trying to spend time there at the obstacle, than to cross it.

Sorry I initially saw the video on my Phone and thought that the wheels in the air are not rotating. After seeing the replies I saw it again on my comp and yes they are rotating.

I hope they get the 4X4 duster with an automatic option too.

Renault duster 4x4 has a completely different gearbox & final drive ratios. It has a much shorter 1st gear with a 4.88 final drive ratio. It will go anywhere a Thar CRDe can go and even more. The first gear of duster 4x4 is not too far from the 4WD Low in the Thar CRDe.

Looks like this is THE one to get between a Scorpio LX 4x4 and a Fortuner 4x4!

Even if Duster 4X4 has got the capability, I doubt it is advisible to put it to test in difficult terrain without chassis modifications, as it is a monocoque.

Even Jeep Cherokee is a monocoque SUV, and so is Grand Vitara. Their toughness is never called into question. Such SUVs generally have stiffer monocoque chassis. Let's hope that is case with 4WD Duster, just like the modified gear ratios.

Wouldn't the comparatively lesser weight be a real edge for Duster when compared to its competitors?

https://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=r8xE3vuLvPQ
I really think a light vehicle like Duster will have its own set of advantages. But the obstacle here is custom tailored for Duster's advantage, typical of what each and every manufacturer does for media off road showcase events. Every vehicle has its own set of unique talents. Check out Skoda Yeti's videos on Youtube. On a level playing field, Duster will compare better to Crossovers, not to chassis based SUVs, leave alone proper off roaders like Gypsy and Thar.

Each vehicle has its own advantages, overall despite the weight Storme will prove much more capable with far more suspension travel with rear solid axle and LSD, low range gearing reduction, stronger underpinnings...

No offences meant, but haven't we seen cases of manufacturers (including Indian auto majors) using different quality of inputs for Indian variants. I am not sure, if the chassis of Euro spec Duster is stronger than Indian one.

Hope I have put across my point clearly this time.

re: Renault Duster AWD launched at Rs. 11.89 lakh (pg. 15)

The Duster / Terrano combo are just what we need here.

1. Moderate size, so parking is simple.
2. Adequate ground clearance approach and departure angles as well as cross over.
3. Decent fuel efficiency, due to comparatively light weight.
4. Much better stability than true SUV's only marginally less than low slung cars.

What it lacks is

1. Refinement and proper placing of controls.
2. Four wheel drive and automatic transmission.

If they have to get back the long waiting lists and give the competition a run for their money. They should do the following.

1. Improve all internal fittings and their quality.
2. Get in a 4X4 (not AWD) option with a choice of 6 speed manual and a torque converter automatic for the 110 BHP engine.
3. Get in an option for their EDC transmission use in their Megane with the FWD option with both 110 and 85 BHP engines.

Currently the EDC is coupled only to the Megane with the 110BHP engine option.

Not to forget to Montero which has proven it's monocoque body on numerous Paris Dakar runs.

Special edition feature-rich 4WD Duster to be launched soon!

While Googling today morning, came across this new piece,

Renault to introduce limited edition Duster at Rs 9.9 lakh
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/renault-t...67-25-162.html

Here is an extract,

"French auto major Renault plans to further strengthen it by launching a 'four-wheel drive' version of the model later this year, besides gearing up for launching a small car next year"

Renault India Country CEO & Managing Director Sumit Sawhney said,

""This will be a feature-loaded model and will be available only during June. We are keeping the price same across India at Rs 9.9 lakh"

Fellow BHPians, what's your take on this?
