+1 to that. However my point was to entirely abandon this whole semi off roader / cross image and bring in a pure performance hatch with simple engine tuning, better tuned suspension and maybe using the alloys from Manza. Price is sensibly and it would have made its mark.

In any case, Vistas are not exactly setting the sales charts on fire.

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Ideally speaking, they *should* extend the length of the Vista Extreme crossover from the existing 3795mm to 3995mm so they can offer more space everywhere and then pit it head on against the EcoSport.

With the increased length, they can maybe even fit the larger wheel inside the car and make it look more like the international crossovers by giving it extended side claddings especially over that wheel arch..

Even if it doesn't have the prestige attached to do well against against Fabia Scout and CrossPolo, it can at least compete against the Sandero Stepway in the international market (very difficult though considering how cheap the Sandero is around the world)

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Come on, this would be the most hideous thing which TATA could possibly come up with. What's with that rear mounted wheel? Does any of its designers actually saw the side profile of this car?
IMO, vista has a very sober design. Not sure why TATA wants to MEANimize it. Vista 90 HP, would be the max what this design can gracefully hold.
So what's next after this crossover concept?
A pickup based on Vista? Or a monster truck based on vista?

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Reminds me of the story where a crow tries to be a peacock. It appears a Vista D90 saw Aria and tried to copy by injecting steroids in selective muscles. Utter disaster.

Tata Motors should learn from Mahindra. Instead of selective muscle steroid injections they should adopt a complete workout .

Mahindra sent a Mahindra MM550 to Gym with Weight Training and proper Diet and rest -> Scorpio

Sent Scorpio to a Gym and eliminated Abs workout and Cardio from the schedule -> Xylo

Not very happy with the output.

Take a Scorpio again -> Send to Gym -> Balanced workout/Diet +Lot of Cardio = XUV500

Need some more fitness but not the bulk,

Sent a Mahindra MM550 -> Send to Commando Training -> Very Capable Thar

TATA products, Repeated Botox & Plastic surgery in Face and a occasional Cardio.

Seems like TATA Motors is suffering either from sever Market/Customer misunderstanding or Lack of capability, Lack of vision.

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Things wouldn't have been so bad if rear was little less curvier.

Tried quickly warping the rear to look less curvier, not sure if bad is now worse.

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

This looks like a local neighborhood mod job, tacky. Tata really needs to rethink what they get out.

With the inexplicable stagnation of the Safari and Indica designs, and now this one need to wonder whether there is a functioning design team. Tata seems to have completely lost the plot.

How can one be successful without innovating, updating and coming out with exciting new designs? This is not rocket science, this is how the industry works at a basic level. There is a real risk Tata loses or has already lost the ability to excite car buyers.

Not bad at all, TML need to change the rear to make it little flat [something like Fusion would be ideal, I think] and also, elongate the vehicle a bit to create a better boot space. But, please NO rear seats - neither a front nor side facing.
Front and back seats of Vista are far far better than most of the so called mid-sized sedans [in terms of comfort].

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

this looks like Vista on stilts..like some local modification where you put in extra long shock absorbers or somehow simply raise the base...
the worst is the rear..they could not think of anything and hence simply blackened it out!!!

For a proper crossover 'feel' atleast...they need
1) bigger wheels
2) extended rear end with a squarish feel perhaps
3) a more Aria like front grill

experts in this forum can better advice on tech specs..

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

I'm still amused that when TML has reused code(its a term used by us, Software engineers for Copy ) from Fiats, not the looks but other aspects, why cant they just ask their design engineers to work along with those at the JLR and come up with something that is good looking at last .

After all they own those brands.

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Just lower it and eliminate the roof rack, this would be what the Vista D90 should have been (without the horrible add-on chin).

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

A half hearted attempt?! I would personally prefer an estate on stilts (aka erstwhile Fiat Adventure). IMO, the best looking car in the Indica/Indigo range was the Marina. If they can do the same with Vista it might appeal to many.

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

I think the Tata marketing guys are pretty much out of touch with reality and simply adopting a "copy-cat" approach. "If another OEM has a model, i too have to blindly follow that" approach. Because VW may launch the Cross-Polo so they have to jack up a VISTA and bung the spare at the back and try to sell.

Why doesn't TML people just check their stock of concept cars once for God's sake ??

Check this link out:
http://www.tatacars.com/innovations/concept-cars.aspx

this is TML's official link and most of the concepts are listed under it. Only two out of this have made it to series production that is the Manza (nee Elegante concept) and the ARIA (nee Cliffrider concept).

What about a niche model ? the ARIA Coupe? the ARIA roadster? The market in India has now matured to embrace alternative bodystyles in low to medium volumes.

The brilliantly conceived INDIVA Mini MPV (incidentally the INDIVA is less than the size of ERTIGA, but seats 7!!). And Tata thought this one up way, way back in 2002 Geneva Motor Show and then they dawdled and dawdled and dawdled while Maruti came, thumbed its nose at TML completely stole the show and created a new niche altogether with the ERTIGA.

Really feel sorry for TML. They are sitting on a treasure trove which other Indian OEM's did not even think of during those days and now TML is trying to play copycat and come up with oddball products.

Tata needs more petrolheads as part of their top management. There is simply no passion at all. I doubt how many Tata top brass actually DRIVES their new cars / about to be launched cars by the scruff of its neck and suggests improvements!!
Their marketing guys think selling cars and toothpastes are the same thing .

Hopefully Mr Slym will inject a much needed dose of 97-Octane in the veins of the respective product heads, else throw them out!!
Tata needs the likes of a Richard Parry Jones in their midst - the legendary ex-head of Ford's Global Product Development who developed iconic cars such as the original FOCUS and the MONDEO.

Tata is bad at execution. They had good ideas: tata estate, indica, nano ,aria, storme... initially excited the public imagination but let down by poor execution..

Mahindra has them on the Backfoot with quick and efficient execution of ideas..

Armada-bolero-scorpio-xuv-rexton... solid products building the reputation,

Chopped up xylo and verito are another example of quick execution..

I was shocked at these cross over images.. .. looks like a vista with a bad suspension lift job..

This sort of hack should be part of something like a 'mahindra custom build ' project and not 'a new crossover vehicle concept...

Re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Some of the modifications look good but placing the spare wheel at the behind is a bit too much.

Actually, toning down the modifications but still retaining visual difference, the 90 HP Vista can do well in the market. Remove the block coloured roof. Introduce a black colour with proper chrome fillings.
