The changes are:
  • The front gets a more heavily contoured bumper, an altered grille featuring silver slats, more pronounced sockets for the round fog lamps and a completely redesigned lower section finished with a silver accent.
  • The headlamps receive new internal graphics, including LED corona ring main beam lights as an option.
  • Reshaped exterior mirror housings carrying side repeater lights.
  • The rear receives a restyled bumper, which like the one up front, has been lightened visually by the adoption of more body coloured surfaces and a larger silver scrub-plate element.
  • X1 adopts a lightly reworked centre console, high gloss air vents and a new range of optional trim elements.
  • The new X1 is set to get more powerful versions of the current engines
  • New eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Re: BMW X1 facelift coming in on Valentines day

Many thanks!

By more powerful engines, do you mean they may be launching a sDrive 25d or would they be offering even xDrive options?

As petrol they just might offer the sDrive 20i with the state of tune for the 520i offering ~180 bhp which may as well be a non-starter given the success that India has seen with 'SUV' with petrol engines

a 25d would definitely be welcome! If only to signal impending launch of a 325d for the F30!

Re: BMW X1 facelift coming in on Valentines day

By powerful engines, I think they probably mean the 183bhp one that's there in the current 3er. The outgoing X1 has the 177bhp motor. You're spot on about the petrol variant @elantracrdi & going by these two pics, the silver slanted grilles certainly looks good... Would love to get em for my exxy if the fitting isn't an issue.

Re: BMW X1 facelift coming in on Valentines day

3 biggest issues with the X1 were:

1. Super stiff ride that was uncomfortable
2. Super heavy steering that was a pain in town
3. super cheap interiors that felt a segment down

If they have softened the suspension, changed the power steering to servotronic from pure hydraulic and improved the cabin, the job is done. Expect this to be a hit.

I spoke to the SA at BMW, Mumbai and he confirmed a couple of changes.
1. The face lifted X1 will have EPS rather than the Hydraulic system present on the current model
2. The transmission will be updated to the one seen on the new 3series. And the gearshift will be the touch kinds as seen on the 3 and 5 unlike the present one.
This is apart from the visual facelift. Don't know how accurate his comments are though

I believe there will be updates to the trimlevels as well, i.e.; sportsline, luxuryline etc., similar to what is there in the current 3-series. And the addition of the brilliant 8-speed transmission is a big plus.

The headlights still do not feel cohesive with the design. Love what they have done to the lower section though. It would look a lot better if the lower part of the headlights were straight instead of the sloping design.

Re: BMW X1 facelift coming in on Valentines day

Definitely looks much better than the outgoing one, even though the changes are small.

The engine will now be the 184bhp version, with the 8 speed ZF transmission. This is definitely going to improve the cars driving experience.

Also it does get servotronic now, so the steering will be almost as light as a Skodas. This is going to be one of the biggest plus points of the facelift, and will certainly increase sales.

I hope the ride is now soft, just like the F30. If this is done too, then the X1 will make a strong case for itself against the Q3.

I have also read that the new X1 will also feature a 4x4 version to compete with the Audi Q3 Quattro.

The 4x4 that we the Bimmer fans/owners know as 'xDrive' isn't planned anytime soon on the X1. That's what I got from a senior sales rep, Deutsche Motoren.

Just watched CnB show on NDTV & SVP says that the X1 will not get an updated gearbox.

This looks much more grown-up now. The alloys contribute in lending it a fiercer look. Superb selection of wheels !

He probably maybe wrong in this case. In other markets where the X1 facelift have gone in, the update has happened to the 8-speed ZF transmission. I don’t see a reason for them to stick to the old 6-speed auto-box for India.

Checked on the autocar india website. They are also saying X1 will have the 8-speed gearbox.
