Re: Force Gurkha on sale again. Launched @ 6.25 Lakhs

I got a chance to TD the vehicle at force motors test track. I was the photographer with the motor bash team.

Vehicle is really really crude. But the offroading capabilities of this vehicle is awesome specially because of crawler gear and diff locks. We were told that the steering size has been reduced and column changed to make the position of the steering a little better.

We were easily doing the 30 degree grades and there was one 40-42 degree down slope also which was easily done.

Rest I will let pictures to the talking.

Great Pictures Nikhil. You have wonderful Photography skills.

The new Gurkha styling has grown on me. I prefer the Hardtop version. Gives a mature & mean look. I understand "4X4", but any Idea what "4X4X4" stands for ?

What a waste of time it was for all of us !!
Can you please share the ppt through pm? Thanks.

I think someone here in the know of these FM people should sit them up & make them understand how in the world the usage "4x4" came into being. Already we are a laughing stock in the world & these silly ignorant people keeps feeding the fairy. I'm SHOUTING this out to FM people, 4x4 is as extreme as it gets with 4 wheels, absolutely nothing beyond that!

4x4x4 = 4 wheel drive x 4 seasons x 4 terrains

I do find the term funny and asked the same to the marketing team about how people are responding to this term. The answer was "its going well with people"

Re: Force Gurkha on sale again. Launched @ 6.25 Lakhs

I was told:

4x4x4 = "4 Wheels" x "4 Driven Wheels" x "4 Individually Driven Wheels (Separate Lockers)"

Yeah, it's goddamned funny.

I read somewhere that the 4x4x4 indicates it's a 4x4 meant for "4 seasons"

@niks_devil666 - thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures.

A question for 4x4 regulars - what is the option if you encounter a flat tyre when you are navigating thru the surface as bad as these pictures show; when you have three wheels on the surface and fourth in the ditch?
Are 4x4s capable to take the vehicle out with a flat tyre?

Yes, in a Gurkha. Been there, done that.
BUT, I was very lucky that the tyre didn't roll out of the rim. I realized I had a flat after progressing another 80-100 meters.

AFAIK, the surface shown in the pictures isn't extreme terrain.
The air pressure in the tyres would have already been reduced while offroading( especially rock crawling )
All offroaders have locked/lockable centre differentials and hence if only one wheel is stuck, the other three wheels are planted and have adequate traction, the chances of getting out if are high.

Guess nobody told FML this, and so they wasted their time and hope to waste our money by putting in those other lockable diffs.

I've been told that it means 4 wheels for all 4 terrains and all 4 seasons. I'm not sure which of this is true, anyway this monicker, the drainpipe snorkel and the cartoon front-end are attracting a lot of laughs and some really painful comments on India's manufacturing 'abilities' in offroad forums around the world.

The vehicle may actually be capable, but its looks have already taken capability out of the equation - nobody seems interested in how well it does, because all people want to do is to laugh at it.

I do not know if you are being sarcastic, but i did mention that a locked centre diff is enough if the other three wheels are planted firmly. Lockable diffs helps in worse conditions.

Re: Force Gurkha on sale again. Launched @ 6.25 Lakhs

All the part-time 4WD vehicles like Jeep/Gypsy/Gurkha have no center differential, so it is as good as locked center differential. What Gurkha provides extra is locks for front and rear differentials.

Re: Force Gurkha on sale again. Launched @ 6.25 Lakhs

Gurkha comes with three stickers.

4x4x4 = 4 Wheel drive with front and rear diffs locked.
4x4x2 = 4 Wheel drive with only front diff or rear diff locked

Once you engage diff locks, you need to change the sticker. It can be done from a small opening on the trip like you change bus route boards from the inside.
