Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

With great power should come great stopping power. I for one, would not like to buy a Nano again if they do not provide disc brakes on the Nano. Drive the Nano in the rains and you would know what I am saying.

Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

IAB has a nice scoop on what we can expect in the Nano 2013. Screen grabs taken from a video loaded on YouTube gives a sneak peak into some details

1. Revised Dashboard with mounted speakers and glove boxes.
2. Blue Tooth
3. Integrated Audio

Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

On FB's Nano page, there are lots of pics of the Nano Drive campaign where the updated vehicles can be seen. While I am no fan of chrome, I loved the deep blue colour on Nano.
@Sachinnayak: this audio system has been old and Tata has been promoting it in the name of alleged safety compatibility as compared to aftermarket HU models.

Tata to launch 2013 Nano this month

Quote:
Tata Motors is all set to launch the 2013 Tata Nano next week. However, unlike the 2012 Nano, which was a considerable step up from its predecessor, the 2013 version comes only with minor cosmetic changes and no significant upgrades.

Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

I am a proud owner of Tata Nano and a Manza. It replaced our 2003 Maruti 800 and is only used for the short runs. One word I can say about this car is that its a fantastic little car, there is ample amount of power when compared to my 800 and the space is just amazing. The biggest plus point is its AC, it cools the entire cabin in seconds even better than Manza.

Now coming to the the point I am trying to make, People are forgetting with whom the Nano is competing against. People are asking for Power steering, all 4 disc brakes, better plastic quality(compared to what a swift or an 800). I cant understand the complaints, people who hasn't even driven the car is complaining about its drivability. It is an affordable compact car, it is the best at the areas its competing except for the boot space but as a first time buyer who is coming off from scooters its the best vehicle in the market which is also the least expensive.

Try to understand the segment in which this car is competing.

Frankly, if TATA brings higher variants with disc brakes and power steering, there'd be a lot of people lining up to buy. We're not asking TATA to equip all variants with all features.

Really, someone asked for 4 wheel disc brakes?

Segment is not important here; safety is. With Disc brakes, the stopping distance reduces and can help save occupants from a crash. try driving the Nano through water logged streets of Mumbai and then apply brakes. You would know what I mean.

If we noticed, Nano LX sells more than any other variants, which clearly says that people are willing to pay more for the features.

Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

The Autocar report says that the CNG variant will not be launched this month, unlike what others have been speculating.

Good thing though is the planned power steering launch towards the end of the year. I hope they also include the disc breaks upfront and a the hatch that can open.

True. Tata expected Nano to be a poor man's car or the cheapest car but that is not where it ended up. Because of the 'cheap' image of Nano which was projected by Tata for years before its launch, the first time buyers think thrice before buying a Nano since Alto and Eon carry a lot more status symbol than world's cheapest car. Thus it actually ended up as a good second car for the household more than the first car for someone upgrading from a two-wheeler.

Most of the Nano sales seem to come from a more affluent group who looks at a very compact second car for the household. For such cases, it is the compactness of Nano that acts as the selling point more than the price and hence the reason the top end sells more. For a second car in the household, it is not a status symbol and hence the cheap image is not really a big turn off for such customers. With more features, and a slightly higher price tag, it might still sell in similar numbers as the current customer base for Nano is not as price sensitive as an Alto buyer.

Re: The 2013 Tata Nano - Lots of updates!

Must say there is improvement in the right direction in a progressive manner. The sneek peek at the interiors shows a neatly integrated dash with speaker pods and glove box which hopefully is much better than the contraption that was provided in the limited edition variant.

The blue color looks cool and is quite an eye turner like the papaya orange. As we saw the reactions of general public, the Nano is a much different car for those who have been in it and also driven it than for the fence sitters who could go on commenting on various things that are not going for it.

The space and ergonomics with a super a/c is what brings out many smiles when one experiences it on ground.

IAB says that the Nano 2013 is launching today. Finally!!!

http://indianautosblog.com/2013/06/2...or-today-82489

I also got a call from a dealer in Goa offering 15-30K exchange bonus on an old scooter/ car. Also the Special edition is now available on CX at no additional cost. This is for the 2012 models.

2013 Tata Nano and Nano CNG E-MAX details

Link to News Section

Tata Motors has just showcased facelifted variants of the Nano, Indigo eCS, Indica eV2 and the Sumo Gold. While details of the Indigo eCS and the Sumo Gold facelifts can be read here and here, this story will focus on the 2013 Nano. The facelifted Nano is Tata Motors's latest attempt to boost sagging sales of the world's least priced car.

Attachment 1099115

Tata Motors's Sanand factory has been operating at an abysmally low production level, so much so that the automaker is said to be mulling assembly of other vehicles (Tata Ace) in the facility initially earmarked for the Nano. Vendors too, are a disappointed lot and Tata Motors is under pressure to shore up volumes of the Nano.

The 2013 version of the Nano may be described as a mild makeover at best. The car gets chrome garnishes at the front and the rear, a redesigned rear bumper with additional vents for better heat dissipation and new paint schemes. Inside the car, the glove boxes (first seen on the special edition 2012 Nano) are now standard while the music system is integrated into the dashboard.

The music system is compatible with USB and Bluetooth devices. The music system streams music to four in-car speakers. The 2013 Nano also gets a parcel shelf, which plays host to two of the four speakers. Other changes on the inside include a revamped 3 spoke steering wheel, new seat fabric and lighter colours for the interior trims.

Mechanically, the 623cc twin cylinder petrol engine outputting 38 PS is retained as it is and so is the four speed manual gearbox. Tata Motors claims that the steering and suspension of the Nano are tweaked to make for a lighter effort to steer the car. Dubbed "Easy Steer" technology, the reworked steering and suspension of the facelifted car are said to make the Nano's steering the lightest in its class. However, it must be noted that the Nano still misses a full fledged power steering. The 2013 Nano will be available at Tata showrooms from July 2013.

Tata Motors focusing on CNG technology as the gap between petrol and diesel prices narrows down

During the "Horizonext" showcase event, Tata Motors announced that the CNG-petrol dual fuel variant of the Nano, dubbed the E-MAX will be launched in the next 2-3 months. The Nano CNG was first showcased at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. While running on CNG, the engine will output 33 PS, which is 5 PS lesser than the power output of the engine while running on petrol.

Two CNG tanks are placed at the bottom of the front seats, thereby avoiding encroachment of the minimal luggage space of the Nano. Notably, CNG refueling will take place through a filler situated in the bonnet of the car, as is the case with the regular petrol powered version.

Tata Motors claims that the Nano CNG will deliver a fuel economy figure of 36 Km/Kg of CNG. The car's emissions, at 75 grams of CO2/Km is also one of the lowest for a four wheeler this side of the Bajaj RE60, which emits 60 grams of CO2/Km. The car delivers a combined (CNG+Petrol) range of 400 kilometers.

Two more CNG powered cars, the Indica eV2 CNG and the Indigo eCS CNG will be introduced soon. These CNG powered variants will be CNG-Petrol dual fuel models, seeking to take advantage of the steadily expanding CNG dispensing infrastructure in India. The CNG powered cars in Tata Motors's range will be suffixed with the E-MAX moniker.

A cleaner burning option than petrol and diesel, CNG is also more cost effective, especially considering the fact that a CNG kit equipped car is much cheaper than its diesel equivalent. Meanwhile, more car makers across India are jumping on to the CNG bandwagon.

India's largest car maker and industry bellwether Maruti Suzuki is leading the CNG brigade with a slew of CNG powered car models, five at last count, available in its portfolio. Days ago, Maruti Suzuki launched the Ertiga CNG model. Hyundai too has CNG powered models (dealer fitment plus factory warranty) in its Indian car range.
