Re: Spotted: ‘Premium’ pickup

Oh Yes. It is indeed the Foton Tunland. It was headed in the direction where Foton office is on Nagar Road in Pune. This is where I had seen multiple such pickups parked few months ago. Must say, it looks dashing.

Well, apart from the uncanny resemblance to the Fortuner, the SUV doesn't look too bad for a Chinese manufacturer. I think they might have a chance, considering the Rexton seems to be doing pretty decent here.

The looks are not that great and you can see copy+paste philosophy all through!

Given our policies and "Customer is the Guinea pig" ideology, we might end up being the scape goats for Chinese cars, now!

Oh, come on! The whole world of automotive design works on those lines, especially in the passenger car sector. Most of the time it's the badges talking. And in case of this Tunland SUV, it could have been a lot worse, but I don't know how they could make this badge talk. At-least the Rexton had Mahindra written on one corner of each ad.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Chinese Foton Tunland (Pick-Up) spotted testing near Pune

Guys i used to live in Egypt vefore it became mayhemland

Point is these chinese trucks Foton, JMC, etc are a dime and plenty. However reliability and emissions are a farce, parts are cheap, mostly they use older generation Isuzu and Nissan engines.

If they come at the 6-7L range then fine else don't bother.

btw Toyota and Isuzu have 90% of the market in Africa and the middle east.

Scoop! Foton test fleet spotted in India

Thanks to Medhaj Shetty - Heartfelt gratitude for sharing this with other enthusiasts!

A large fleet of Foton vehicles has been spotted in India. The images show a pickup, a passenger van and a full-size commercial truck, with all of them having test number plates.

The spotted vehicle fleet includes two units of the Foton Tunland pickup. This double-cab pickup is powered by a Cummins 2.8-litre diesel engine that develops 161 BHP and 360 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is available with both 2WD and 4WD options. This isn't the first time that this pickup has been spotted in the country. A heavily camouflaged version of the Tunland was earlier spotted testing on public roads in India back in 2013.

Foton has also brought in the View CS2 passenger van in India. The CS2 is available in three variants in the international markets: Royal Saloon, Supporter and Transor. The model spotted in India appears to be the Supporter variant, which is a 13-seater people carrier. It is also powered by the same 2.8-litre Cummins diesel engine from the Tunland pickup.

Interestingly, Foton is also testing its full-size heavy truck Auman in India. The Auman brand includes Foton's largest trucks, which are available in various variants. The model spotted in India appears to be the 6x4 truck tractor carrier, which is powered by a 11.6-litre engine.

Foton is China's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. The company has been eyeing the Indian market from a fairly long time. In 2011, Foton announced plans to invest Rs. 1,676 crore in India to manufacture light, medium and heavy trucks. It had also acquired 250 acres of land in Pune to set up a manufacturing facility. The company secured all required licences for setting up the plant earlier this year.

Foton CS2 is undoubtedly a replica of Toyota Hiace.
I haven't seen any venture between Toyota and Foton on web space to ascertain if Foton is a surrogate baby from Toyota.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Chinese Foton Tunland (Pick-Up) spotted testing near Pune

I have been in the Market for a large minivan to convert into a comfortable traveller for 4-8 people with space to have a work station and amenities. The first choice of course is the Force Traveller but unfortunately, it can be registered only as a yellow board (taxi) in Karnataka and that comes with its own set of issues. (Btw, is there any state in India where the Force Traveller can be registered as a white board personal vehicle?) The only option is the Tata Winger but that really is a few sizes too small.

So, I am left wondering what to do next and here comes the news of the Foton CS. Started googling around and found this. I really hope they introduce the Royal Saloon version of the minivan. Watch the 0.50 to 1.10 segment is slowmo, else the interiors just go by in a flash. And I hope it can be registered as a private vehicle. Almost just what I need

Foton Tunland pick-up truck spotted in India

Big thanks to Kaustubh Bhosale for sharing this!

The Foton Tunland double cab pick-up truck has been spotted in India for the very first time.

Manufactured by Chinese manufacturer Foton Motor, the spotted Tunland pick-up is powered by a 2.8L Cummins diesel engine which outputs 163HP of power and 360Nm of peak torque.

Is it here for component testing? Or will it be offered as a rival to the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pick up? Only time will tell.
