re: Improved Tata Aria @ Geneva 2013 : Details

Remember how the Geneva show cars have actually NEVER come into the market?

The list is long:

Tata Mega Pixel
Tata Pixel
Tata Elegante
Tata Cliffrider
Tata Indiva
Tata Aria Roadster

An aside, I wonder what they do with these concepts once the show ends?

re: Improved Tata Aria @ Geneva 2013 : Details

This is just a minor change from the normal Aria and will make itself available soon.

The biggest change is AT, + 10% higher power, and a better music system, the Interior Leather is already quite decent, and the smoked headlamps or clear tail lamps though good will not make too much of a difference to the overall looks.

IMHO Aria is the best vehicle from Tata's stable, unfortunately it didn't do as well as expected. But AT is a very welcome move. I hope it is launched soon.

AutocarIndia reports that a 6 speed manual gearbox would also made available to handle the extra power.
It also mentions that the AT box is sourced from GM. I thought it was developed in house by TaMo.

Quote:
A new set of gearboxes have been developed to cope with the increased power and torque. On display at the Geneva Show in the Aria was Tata’s first automatic transmission – a GM sourced, six-speed automatic transmission with gear ratios optimised for the Safari. There’s also a six-speed manual transmission available for the more powerful Aria

I think the same upgrades to the Safari Storme would really make it a more compelling proposition. Hoping that happens. 400NM makes it drool-worthy!

On the Aria, these updates are like prescribing aspirin for a cold. Nevertheless, hope it still works. TML really needs some good news on the domestic front

But a cosmetically different Aria has been snapped in India already. I really don't think the changes would be restricted to just smoked head lamps & a different tail light set. It could also be noted that the interiors have NOT yet been shot. So we probably have seen the Aria Auto being tested.

Also,
Tata Cliffrider / Indiva are pre-renderings of Aria
Tata Pixel/Mega Pixel are Nano variants and some parts of same will feature in future Nano production.

I think, Concepts rarely transform into production vehicle as it is. It is an opportunity for OEM designers to showcase their talent and abilities given a free hand. For production though, many other constraints are studied and implied before finalising on the design.

The Aria showcased in Geneva is not a concept vehicle rather a product in making. It may have been displayed to gauge customer reaction, yours and mine including, and allow management to take a decision on final production line.

Re: Improved Tata Aria @ Geneva 2013 : Details

I think they had enough "hope it happens" when this vehicle was shown in the 2012 delhi show, the current 320Nm version was shown at this same show quite some time back. I wonder whether they have a clear idea about what they really want to do. It's anybody's guess how this company thinks and works.

Re: Improved Tata Aria @ Geneva 2013 : Details

400 Nm of torque is pretty impressive but the fact that it produces that at 1700 RPM is a bummer in my opinion. It should be much lower as in the case of Innova, in the range of 1300-1400 RPM. I'm afraid there'll be some turbo-lag to deal with, given the additional weight, although the manual 6 speed shift sounds sweet!

Sorry to Sound a little nit-picky, and to go off topic here, but the Indiva had nothing to do with the Aria, i think you are referring to the Tata Xover.

Your point though is well taken, specially in the case of the Indiva; Tata's concept of a monocoque seven seater MPV that was supposed to be car like to drive based on the first gen Indica platform. Sound familiar?

They had displayed this in 2002, never went into production, probably because the market wasn't ready for it then. Now they have the concept and prototype ready, and a market that is thriving on such vehicles. Still nothing. It's almost as if Tata never went back to the concept at all. I can understand something like that in the case of the Aria roadster etc. The industry segment there was a little alien to Tata Motors, but this? MPVs were right down their alley back in 2002! And correct me if I'm wrong they had a decent enough chunk of the people mover market at the time, they would have created a new segment from a position of strength, well relatively of course.

Somehow Tata Motors always seems to be playing catch-up, and sometimes it's not just appalling but downright annoying!

Here's the link to an article that covered the unveiling back in 2002:

Aria looks great, especially with the LR wheels. If this makes it to India in this avatar I am getting one for sure.

I am curious to see pictures of the red safari in the back. Its dressed up as a rescue vehicle, I wonder if it will rescue itself from redundancy!!

Interesting - just happened to talk to an Aria owner today who had done around 52k in his vehicle. This included a 3000 km road trip with 7 people. The car was very impressive in his view. Only grouse was the occasional issues with the service chaps. Otherwise very happy with his car - touchwood!

The car looks better. However I feel that the steering should be lower. Looks a little "in-your-face" in the pic.

Your next truck by any chance JK?

Drive on,
Shibu.
