BMW has a horrendous service network where he lives - checked, authenticated. Similarly with Audi. Mercedes has a good reputation and so does JLR (surprisingly).
Oh well then, my bad! My buddy's car might not have been in top shape. I'm still sure there are other more VFM options out there that offer brilliant ride and off-road-ability especially since it is priced more than it ought to be and is long due for a much needed replacement. BUT if he is happy with it then there should not be a problem Nice to hear that JLR has a good presence and service over there

Re: Land Rover launches improved Freelander 2 @ 38.67 lakhs

Impressions post a drive to Munnnar

Engine and Gearbox: very smooth below 3500 rpm. sounds gruff when revved. Little bit of lag, but then, since my daily drive is an Accord, maybe i'm being harsh. The GB is leisurely in normal driving - shifts are acceptably quick in sports mode. Punchy mid-range.

Ride and Handling: the BEST i have ever experienced. I thought the Accord was good, man, this things blows it out of the water. Very very little is felt in the cabin. The suspension goes about its job really silently. Deep potholes, speed breakers at medium speed, nothing fazes it. Body roll is very controlled too - minimal bobbing and swaying in corners.

Steering feel - a bit artificial at low speeds. Effort noticeably builds up as speeds increase.

A/C - adequate, could be better. My Accord is far better.

Visibility - GREAT. A very very welcome feature. The lines are simple, the windows are large, the panaromic sunroof makes everything cheerful inside.

Features: The hill descent WOWed me. came pretty handy during a couple steep descents in Munnar. The rest are OK. smart key, button start, 7 inch touchscreen, reverse cam, electronic parking brake, panaromic sun roof etc.. The Meredian system is outstanding - and I am an audiophile.

VFM - definitely pricey. But actually for a ride and handling package like this along with off-road credentials, not much of a choice.

Re: Land Rover launches improved Freelander 2 @ 38.67 lakhs

Some pics...one grouse I have is that the rear seat belts aren't high adjustable. Very glaring omission. by the way, the headlights are fantastic and the seats are very nice - fronts - both are captain seats. No memory function for the driver seat :(

Re: Land Rover launches improved Freelander 2 @ 38.67 lakhs

reviving the thread, 4.5 years later, only routine fluid and brake pad changes. Along the way, it also got a Pete's remap and makes around 200 bhp/500 + nm and has completely transformed into a mid range demon. The ride quality is a pleasure. Nothing rattles. The touchscreen is showing it's age, there's no keyless entry, the high beam could be better, that's it I guess.
