Re: Mahindra Scorpio 6-Speed Automatic, available again!

This was noticed in the new ad of Scorpio where Automatic transmission availability is mentioned clearly.

Reposting that TVC here. Note at 53 secs.

I doubt if the ICB story is inspired from the discussions from http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...stopped-2.html , as Mahindra dealers have been accepting AT Scorpio bookings all along.

Why is the current Automatic not powered by a CRD engine. Is Mhawk not Common Rail Diesel ?
I am curious as to the difference between the two.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio 6-Speed Automatic, available again!

@ rajeshchand : I've not had a single clutch change for the past 5 years and I'm not alone in this league.
The Scorpio clutches are known to last for at least 50k kms with even moderate use.

Nevertheless, now you can look forward to the AT version.

The Scorpio is indeed available in the 2.2 MHawk engine only. I said I wished it was available in the CRDe guise which I love.

Details on what type of AT this is? A regular torque converter, CVT, DSG like etc? I could not find it online and the sales reps have no clue.

That is not the erstwhile 2.6 CRDe but a low cost variant of the 2523CC DI engine which also does duty on the Bolero on some versions.

The gearbox is a conventional 6 speed automatic sourced from Australia and made by Bosch. There were news of procurement issues in 2012 but I suppose owing to the low numbers the automatic version sells in, customer orders have never really been affected. 2WD availability is quicker.

In terms of driving, the automatic version is simply excellent, especially in the city. I test drove the Elantra, Fortuner, Brio, Endeavour and Verna in their automatic guises, and the Scorpio AT was more responsive than any of them by a good margin. There were niggles in the initial years of launch but they seem to have been ironed out by Mahindra.

The 4WD has a slightly larger turning radius, a slightly stiffer suspension up front with a torsion bar and protruding hub caps on the front wheels. This actually improves the handling to a slight extent.
