| ![]() Omission of V6 engines isn't all that encouraging. It certainly is good from an environmental perspective. The picky luxury car buyer looking for buttery smooth engines and effortless performance wouldn't be too happy. May be MB could have tried the E300 cdi (3.0 LV6 - 231ps/500NM diesel) if efficiency and cost were the agenda. Given that the price gap between diesel and petrol is dropping, a v6 E300 petrol (if not 350) wouldn't have been that bad a choice I guess. No 6 cylinder option, IMHO is a big let down, especially the very impressive E350 cdi. A 4 cylinder diesel for 50+ lakh where both performance and refinement are somewhat compromised for lower upfront price and running costs and a 6 cylinder is not even as an option doesn't sound good! Not sure if MB wants to reduce the average age of its customer base or increase it by a margin that it becomes unassailable even for Volvo (I don't have stats here, just being a judgmental - sorry Volvo)! Lack of a competing product albeit for a small market share is only going to make things worse for MB in India. The last time I checked, BMW did clock decent numbers of their 530ds (comparatively a small fraction of the 5 series range) but put that against 0 for MB.
