Maruti is offering immediate delivery of its Swift Diesel for all those who book their cars by the 17th of this month. The company is currently running ‘The Great Diesel Week’ campaign.

The dealer Team-BHP spoke to mentioned that the offer was applicable for select variants only, and in limited numbers. The LDi and VDi variants are being delivered immediately. The wait for the top-end ZDi variant stretches to a month.

It is important to note that the Swift LXi / LDi and VXi / VDi variants suffer from braking issues. Related Threads:

The offer is a sign of decline in market sentiment and optimistic inventory levels at Maruti dealers. Maruti sold 19,534 Swifts last month, down by 6% compared to last year.

Maruti is also offering a discount on the Ritz Diesel to the tune of Rs 25,000, with an extra Rs 20,000 thrown in as an exchange bonus. The Ritz' facelift hasn't made much of a difference to its sales figures (4,143 deliveries last month). That's a year-on-year decline of nearly 30%.

A sign of changing times indeed. Dramatic difference from the lead time projections post the strikes at Maruti Plant last year.

Maruti finally having to advertise to let people know that unlike a resturant on a Saturday Late Night there is no waiting - All are welcome.

The Industry needs to sit down for some practical expectations and hard core selling in the present hard times. The Market would not really expand significantly by marketing and it is really a case of one vendor doing better at the cost of another till the Industry turn around comes about.

With the HONDA AMAZE being launched tomorrow, Maruti will no doubt leave no stones unturned to push its Swift & Dzire combo to the maximum to get those elusive numbers.

The Honda Amaze will be out in April and not March. The launch is on the 16th of April.
Overdrive however reports that it could be the 11th as well.

This sounds like excess inventory and a way to move that. Am sure it will help people who had already decided on the swift and possibly tip some people who were on the fence, but overall I can't see it having too much of an impact.

Am also wondering whether this has to do with pushing stock before any potential price rise. Sales are already slowing and Maruti want to ensure they are not one of the companies who suffers, unlike say tata.

I wonder if this deal also applies to the vxi/vdi with abs or not.

IIRC, Vxi/vdi with ABS was discontinued with the launch of the new Swift.

A well priced EcoSport can really make a dent to the Swift and DZire numbers.

The New Swift was launched during August 2011. So, the comparison is with new gen and not the old one.

Well, that's a good news. If this is the case, I think even ZDi will start becoming available off-the-shelf in few weeks. So what to do with the extra capacity in those plants? Bring down the number of shifts? And I read even the petrol factory is shut down owing to excess inventory. Are we going to witness some discounts for Swift too, for the first time in 7 years or so??

I believe this downturn in the Swift's market is majorly due to the awaited launches of the Honda Amaze and the Ford Ecosport. Also the new Dzire is definitely eating into the sales of Swift's sales as the price gap isn't much between them. I recently enquired about Dzire diesel and the dealer said there is a waiting period of 3-4 months and for petrol model is about 1 month. Ertiga is readily available off the shelf, even diesel.

The auto industry is in a bad phase if the Maruti Suzuki top seller product & that too diesel, i.e. the Swift Diesel is available for discount (not just immediate delivery). Link to ET article on the same:
