Actually, cross-shopping is an individual's decision, so comparing cars across segments just because somebody is willing to go a segment or two below, takes things a bit far. For example, I may be willing to cross shop between the Ecosport and the Nano, as my primary requirement might be the ground clearance. It is fair up to there, but now, for example, when I start comparing their mileages and claim that Nano is better, I have crossed into the ridiculous territory.

if someone plonks in their hard earned cash on a EcoSport he/she is right in comparing it with any vehicle he/she gets for the same money.

Sorry, but I always feel a bit awkward when I read that oft-abused phrase "hard-earned money". It is my view that people with REAL hard-earned money don't buy Ecosports and Amazes. I find them buying Altos and Santros at max.

Regarding comparision, each buyer is perfectly right in comparing say a Nano to a S class, if he chooses to. Its his buying decision and his alone, to decide which car to buy and what he should compare it against. Who are we to say, hey dont compare Ecosport to Santro, or dont compare it to a XUV?

In my personal opinion EcoSport is a fully kitted hatchback, not a SUV. If I were in the market to buy a new hatch I would look at the EcoSport, if I needed a new SUV I would look elsewhere. Some other members have different opinions, Ford thinks EcoSport is the best SUV, so be it, its after all the buyers personal choice.

And you are the authority to decide who buys which car with hard earned money? So I bought a Safari, and I must have loose change, earned out of doing nothing for buying it? Please stop putting up statements like these, it gets nasty.

That's a bit harsh - there are those of us who are passionate about vehicles and are willing to spend on that, just as others spend on their other hobbies. This topic of discussion is going OT, however.

I was thinking of bringing up this topic given that Honda Amaze is garnering so much interest in Team-BHP despite being late and the fact that people keep cribbing that Ford will loose market because of being late with Ecosport launch.

- While I do agree Honda is late in the Diesel game. How many of you actually feel that being late has affected Honda big way.

Given the fact that they are still garnering sales and interest

- Likewise, I hear lots of hue and cry about Ecosport delays. But how many of you actually think it will affect the sales of vehicles or interest garnering in the long run.

I have a feeling in the long run the impact would be less, given by what I am seeing happen with Honda Amaze.

Any opinions?

I read an item in the business section of HT today that says Ford is planning a first of it's kind test drive of the Ecosport with around 150 or so journalists in Goa next month. I'm guessing this will the kind of test drive Ford organized in Brazil ahead of it's launch in that country.

Anyone knows when exactly is this event going to be help? I'm sure team-bhp is a part of the launch. Can't wait now.

May is already here and now it is over 500 days since the EcoSport was first dangled in front of us at the Auto Expo.
Ford seriously has a knack for creating hype for the upcoming products. Hope the product itself is as good as the marketing campaign!

In my previous post I have quoted couple of Auto sites which have confirmed EcoSport review in the first half of next month. I guess, this event is linked to that and hence we can expect the drive early next month.

Also, the article in HT ends hinting at launch in May.

Following are the excerpts from the article in HT today:

In a first of sorts, 150 experts and media professionals from around the world including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Taiwan will be part of a global test-drive for Ford’s entry-level SUV EcoSport in Goa next month.

The reason. The car would be exclusively manufactured in India for right-hand drive markets as was in the case of its compact car Figo, paving the way for a global test-drive taking place in the country for the first time ever.

“We are hosting one of India’s most comprehensive and largest product ride and drive programmes with more than 150 participants from markets including India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan and our dealer principals from across the country driving the Chennai-built EcoSport across two weeks,” said Joginder Singh, president and managing director, Ford India.

.... The vehicle will be launched in India next month and will come with a 1 litre petrol and a 1.5litre diesel engine.

IMHO - Ecosport is just a big hatch, equally sized as an i20. I bet this (iam not even a cSUV) is going to be priced out of value. No car is worthy of so many soft launches and marketing mileage. FORD - Just launch the mini car and let it speak for itself. One more international stint at Goa? Another all paid working luxury holiday for experts? Atleast someone is gaining. Alright then next month it is, hope to see happy customers and the car make a mark on Indian roads.

There was this promotional event from Ford, giving some 100 people a chance to drive ecosport across the country based on some entries right? Was anyone from team-bhp lucky enough to get a chance to drive ecosport? Or does anyone knows anyone who has driven it? Curious to know how is the power delivery (both petrol and diesel) and the ride and handling of ecosport.

The cars will be given from 13 May to 3rd June . First 100 ppl to drive eco sport in /india. Contest ends 23rd June. The winner will probably be the first owner of Ecosport in India.

Renuka Kirpalani of AutoCar show confirms she will be driving EcoSport next week and expects the launch mid May. So ideally by 10th of May we can at least expect reviews from various Auto experts.

Only things missing for me are the LED lights and sunroof in the Titanium optional variant.

The Ecosport mediadrive appears to be on May 7 & 8 according to the admin of the Inadian autos blog. Now its going to get really hot in the compact car market.
