I tried moving them beyond the normal range of operation, like most cars these days have to prevent them from breaking. It didn't work on the Ecosport. Could turn out to be expensive esp the way cars are parked in my office parking/malls and people walk with backpacks between cars.
You could be correct about this or it could maybe require a real and more forceful impact to make the mirror go backwards. We would tend to not hit the mirror with that kind of force on purpose least it breaks.

If it indeed does not budge then it will be quite an expensive repair.

Ha ha. Of course it requires more force than what i could possibly apply and get away with it in the mall. But i specifically checked for this function cause its saved me some money many many times!

The Ecosport mirrors seemed like a beefy lot but when a backpack with a 6kg laptop swings unintentionally, it can cause significant damage if it hits hard. I've actually broken the mirror of a car (not my car of course) in the office parking.

Its good to see that Ford did not detune the engine. This will be a hoot to drive with the Ford DNA and 125ps. Could be consider as a hot-bulked up-hatch or a hot mini-SUV.

Any word on whether the TDCi uses the same gearbox as the new Fiesta? If yes, that'll be a downer, as its geared for mileage.

Also, any sources that these are the engine outputs that we're actually receiving? I'm still sulking after the big trick Ford pulled by changing the new Fiesta from 1.6L to 1.5L.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

There is not much power difference between manual petrol and ecoboost. Considering the price difference and an unproven engine in indian context, ecoboost might not be a hit.

There is a substantial difference between the two.
Ecoboost is 20% more fuel efficient and pumps out 10-15% more power. Also not to forget that ecoboost gives the peak torque at around 1800 RPM.

If petrol was to average out at INR 75 per litre and Eco boost variant was to be priced 50k more than 1.5 litre TiVCT variant, 50k will be recovered after driving 67500 kms. Is it worth it?

I am now wondering how Ecoboost engine gels with Urban SUV positioning. You may not drive your city car too much. Plus given congestion and bad roads, you may not necessarily pick a powerful engine.

If Ford is smart, they will launch Titanium variant with Ecoboost engine as the only petrol engine option along with diesel engine.

If we are talking of recovering the initial costs then cars like Polo GTI, linea turbo petrol etc don't make any sense at all. If the engine is as good as they are portraying it to be then the extra 50 k might be worth it.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

It is going to be the rain of mini SUVs in next few years, every company is working on a mini SUV project with or without making an announcement. Whoever makes it to market with smart design, decent features and sweet-spot pricing quickly can put the sales charts on fire (like Duster).

Even though if expensive, Ecosport pricing may work for Ford due to non-existing competition today, however, scene will change quite soon as newer mini SUV models hit the market – it will be price war then.

One observation is, every company is behind sub 4 meters to avail the tax benefit, which may fail immensely with the slightest resemblance to premium hatchbacks, which is a high possibility. Smart SUVish design is the key. If the market gets fed up of the sub 4 meters hatch like SUVs and looks beyond, DUSTER would be the only choice, which is already a winner.

Curious to see how this mini SUVs sales war unfolds and the impact on all other segments in same price range.

I totally agree and given the fact that the ecoboost engine gives 21% more peak torque and that too at 2700 rpm earlier than the 1.5 liter engine (ecoboost produces 17kgm peak torque at 1800rpm as compared to 14kgm peak torque that 1.5ltr engine produces at 4500rpm) , will make a huge difference in real world performance specially the in-gear acceleration times.
Plus the ecoboost engine is all about better performance with better economy , kind of win-win situation.
We can take the slightly better fuel efficiency as an added bonus with better performance.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

How I wish the ex-showroom prices were as given below? OK, lesser than this would be even better

(Price in Lakhs)
Ambiente 1.5 Petrol 7.00 -7.25
Ambiente 1.5 Diesel 7.75 -8.00
Trend 1.5 Petrol 7.75 -8.00
Trend 1.5 Diesel 8.50 -8.75
Titanium 1.5 Petrol Manual 8.50 -8.75
Titanium 1.5 Petrol Automatic 9.50 -9.75
Titanium 1.0 Petrol Manual 8.75 -9.00
Titanium 1.5 Diesel Manual 9.50 -9.75
Titanium Plus 1.5 Petrol Manual 9.50 -10.00
Titanium Plus 1.5 Petrol Automatic 10.50 -11.00
Titanium Plus 1.0 Petrol Manual 09.75 -10.25
Titanium Plus 1.5 Diesel Manual 10.50 -11.00

As said many times in this forum before me, with the right pricing, Ford India can set the charts on fire and get their sales numbers to where it was in April last year.
If they do get it wrong the second time, the winner, Renault can hike the price of Duster yet again .

Again, I'd like to remind the Ford bosses about Honda Jazz. Though a fantastic vehicle (I am yet to meet or hear from a Jazz owner who speaks ill about his ride) it never recovered from the initial negative reception due to its high price - even after a huge price cut. Yes, the Indian consumer mind is complex at times.
Renault, on the other hand did well by starting with a reasonable price, waited till they got enough bookings/sales, and now have themselves forgotten the number of times they have increased the price of Duster.

In short - Ford, please don't do a Fiesta on Ecosport.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

There is a maddening set of information pouring in from twitter. Ride handling similar to new fiesta, nvh low but you can see that its a 3 pot engine once you rev up. seating comfort at back seems to be good. Target market is people in the 30s who want the next coolest thing.
Maybe we need to get a live twitter feed on the forum for this
