Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

We must have a Low-Mileage Meet soon!

My mother's '95 Esteem, which she's passed onto me has, since it's inception 18 years back, clocked only 1,04,800 genuine kms! The Suzuki heart is a gem of an invention. This baby was also lucky to have survived the 26th July deluge in 2005(*cough*actually she was already at the mechanic's who's garage was high enough to prevent any flooding)

So coming back to the topic, she's roughly done about 5.5 kms per year since 1995!

MARCUS you may want to do your math again and edit your post accordingly for the yearly milage to read as 5.5K kms.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I bought my Alto in Jan 2007 and my odometer has touched 20,000 kms recently. Usually drive it on weekends, hence the low mileage.

It indeed is. Currently she is at the workshop undergoing a drivetrain upgrade and few general maintenance.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

We had a Daewoo Matiz, a 2000 model. It was the SD version. The car clocked close to 38000 kms in its 10 yrs of existence with us till 2010 when it was sold. I guess 3800 km/yr qualifies it as low mileage.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

We had an Innova which we purchased in 2007, it did ~65,000km in 1.5 years. Later, when dad's job changed, we sold the Innova and went for a used Corolla with ~28k on the odo. Just completed 3 years with the car, and it's yet to touch 40k.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I have two good examples in the family! Both cars belong to my grandparents.
  1. Maruti 800, 2001 model. It has run only about 30,000 Kms till date. That roughly translates as 2500 Kms per year.
  2. Tata Indigo CS, 2008 model. It has run only 8,502 Kms till date. That translates to less than 2000 Kms per year.

They bought the Indigo as a roomier upgrade and planned on disposing off the 800 shortly afterwards. However, the 800 remained my Granddad’s in-city favourite while the Indigo was used as a weekend limo (as in, with a chauffeur) for social visits and trips to the Church. Now my Granddad doesn't drive anymore and the chauffeur alternates between the two cars, though the drives are becoming more and more confined to the weekends alone.

I would love to give one of the cars a very active life, but I don't have any parking space to spare at my place. I feel a slight tinge of sadness knowing that two fine, almost-new machines are just sitting their years away.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I have 3 cars at home that are fit to be mentioned in this thread:

1) May 2003 OHC Vtec that's done only 27,000 km in 10 years (got it second hand for myself 2 weeks ago)

2) 2005 Santro Xing Automatic that's done only 38,000 km in 8 years (got it second hand for my wife 6 months ago)

3) 1995 Nissan Quest that's done only 34,500 miles (55,200 km) in 18 years. It is a left-hand drive automatic from the US.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My Dad bought a Maruti -800 way back in 1998 when he passed on his Fiat to Me. The maruti has still not clocked 25K on the odo. Later he bought a Santro in 2008 which is still to clock 8000 kms.
While on the other hand on discposing off the gifted Fiat i bought Zen MPFI and later Fiesta 1.6 SXI. Sold off Zen (2001) after clocking 66000 Kms last year before leaving India and Parked My Fiesta (16000 Kms) at my fathers place as i was hardly getting any resale value.
So now my father has 3 vehicles to Park.....
Some times with such low running I feel whether it makes a economic sense to really buy a vehicle ... par dil hai ke manta nahin..

Haha...I knew that the actual average number would be +/- a couple of hundred kilometers; the number I quoted was with 1 lakh kilometers in mind!

Dear MARCUS I would not have 'nitpicked' over a few hundred kilometers
You mentioned the running as 5.5 kms per year thus making a grand total of 99.0 kilometers. I was trying to draw your attention to the missing suffix of 'K'. >> 5.5K kms

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I have a Sept 2006 Swift Vxi which has done around 27K in the last 6.5 years of its existence. The car was used by me only on Sundays, never took it to office as the traffic and distance was too huge for me to afford the amount of money that I would need to spend on petrol. My usage increased a bit after I shifted to Delhi in Jan 2010 but I bought a Scorpio in May 2011 and the Swift is now being used by my sis-in-law since then but even she hardly uses the car.

In comparison, I just clocked 24K kms last week on my Scorpio.
