Heard from a dealership in Bangalore today that the new Octavia will be available in Showrooms for "viewing" probably in a week's time. Also got some kind of confirmation on the petrol model that it will be the 1.4 TSI for all the TSI lovers. Expect the Octavia 1.4 TSI to come at a good price compared to the Laura 1.8 TSI.

Read a few tweets, event is about to start or has started! I doubt prices are going to be announced. At best maybe what engines are going to be launched would be officially revealed.

Nope, it seems it is the 1.8. 1.4 may follow. As tweeted by Shapur Kotwal just now - "1.8 TSi petrol will have 180bhp under the hood; drives like a car half its size. Big smiley comes standard."

New Skoda Octavia unveiled. An October launch seems likely!

The rear is spacious and comfortable with a soft and comfortable bench. The boot is spacious and big, almost 590 litres big.
Skoda will retain the 1.8-litre TSi and 2.0-litre TDi mills that do duty in the current Laura and introduce the 1.4 TSi engine that powers he base Jetta in India. The quick-shifting DSG ‘box will also continue to remain an option for the diesel, as it is for the current Laura. But there will not be any paddles.
The third generation Octavia is to be sold alongside the current Laura, which is effectively the second generation Octavia internationally.

Nope, Autocar says "The Laura will be discontinued after the new Octavia hits the roads" and I believe that to be more accurate.

Sad to see only the Bolero setup still in the car, that means no Columbus and NO GPS. And very less chrome and wood giving it a scaled down look. But beige interiors with black carpeting ala the Superb is the way to go for India.

On the brighter side carwale in their short update have mentioned panaromic sunroof on the car at the launch which is one feature i was hoping Skoda would get into India.

Overdrive claims both manual and automatic boxes supported for both petrol and diesel :-) If its accurate, then Skoda has used common sense, and catered to the enthusiasts like myself !
