- Rumors suggest the SUV may be powered by a new 1.2L supercharged engine in addition to a 1.8L.
- Transmission is expected to match the six-speed manual and CVT transmission.
- November launch expected

Just a little to heavy to be motivated by a 1.2 supercharged, don't you think? The equivalent model in the US gets a 2.5 l engine (assuming it is the Nissan Rogue). The smaller CUV, the Juke, gets a 1.6 and a 1.6 turbo. Imagine powering a CR-V sized vehicle with a Polo GT type engine!

But you neva know with these small displacement forced induction engines, like this 1.2L Supercharged engine may end up producing 150 odd hp which should be good enough if not adequate for an SUV

And to lug around 1.5 tonnes of the SUV, the 1.2 will be screaming struggling all the time. I would think a 1.5 or 1.6 supercharged and 2.0 NA would be much better choices. The vehicle looks fairly big for a 1.2l. It is not exactly Ecosport size.

Re: *Rumour* : Nissan India to replace the X-Trail with crossover Qashqai?

I have seen Qashqai many times in different parts of Europe. I firmly believe that the looks would suit the Indian taste and of course it is a successful crossover.

I think, Nissan would (or should) launch it in the 15L to 20L segment. Once again, 'pricing it right' would make or break this one too!

But it would compete against the likes of Q3, X1 if launched in India. So I would expect pricing to be in that range. With Terrano to take the sub 15L levels, this guy may go beyond 20 for sure. This makes me go on to say, that at 10-15L range we can never expect a well rounded and a well finished product.

Qashqai is a pure softroader and I have personally driven it in Dubai. Its sold here with a 2 litre petrol motor mated to Nissans CVT gearbox and an all mode 4x4. Fitted with all the bells and whistles, it drove like a sedan and is very fuel efficient. In India Nissan should think of a diesel unit, maybe the same 150PS refined diesel from the xtrail itself with the option of 6 speed manual and automatic boxes. It's smaller than a CRV and it won't be cheaper than 12-14 lakes.

It wont be launched at that price range. Nissan has the Terrano (Duster Twin) on that range. I am sure Qashqai would be fighting it out with X1/Q3 etc.

The Qashqai should slot in the space of Skoda Yeti (15-22 lakhs). It’s actually not in the range of X1 or Q3. Though in some markets there maybe an overlap between the top end of Qashqai with entry variant of the X1/Q3.

But now that Nissan is moving with the Terrano, I doubt if Qashqai will even be considered as an option for India.

+1. Its about a tad cheaper than the X1/Q3. Pretty much in the Yeti territory. Thats why I mentioned it would be fighting it out with X1/Q3. I should have mentioned price point also. Thanks for bringing it out.

If Nissan could give Terrano with a solid build quality, even a jacked up price (16 OTR Bangalore for the top end) would find takers. Because the Yeti/Q3/X1 aspiring population would get a very well specc'ed Nissan at a much lower price. But sadly I dont think that would happen. The sheet metal changes that Nissan is referring to, maybe only to do with body work change and NOT sheet metal thickness change.

Re: *Rumour* : Nissan India to replace the X-Trail with crossover Qashqai?

So, according to the report its a 7 seater Qashqai .Which is Quashqai +2 .

The 5 seater Quashqai which has a shorter wheelbase and smaller in length as compared to Quashqai+2.

Quashqai has been successful in europe giving tough competition to CR-V & RAV 4.

If its the Quashqai then it would be competing with the CR-V,X1,Q3 . If its the Quashqai+2 at the price of CR-V,Q3,Xi and the fortuner ,IMO it would be a good move by Nissan.
