Mahindra Launches new H series Xylo, with M-Hawk Engines. M-Eagle discontinued.

Mahindra and Mahindra has plonked in the mHawk 2.2 Liter turbo diesel engine to the E4 and E8 variants of the Xylo and renamed them as H4, H8 and H9.

Quote:
The 2.2 liter mHawk engine produces 120ps and 280Nm of torque, while delivering an ARAI certified fuel economy of 14.2 kmpl. The car features a new 5 speed manual transmission. The new H-Series is also equipped with key safety features such as ABS with EBD, Dual Airbags, Extra Stability Technology Suspension (EST), Reverse Parking Assist and several other features. The rationale behind the nomenclature of the Xylo H-Series derives from its engine, where ‘H’ connotes the mHawk engine with high power, high performance and high mileage. The Xylo H-Series will be available in one new colour –Dolphin Grey, (H8 & H9) apart from being available in 5 other colours.

The H-Series offers a range of variants starting with the H4 (with ABS option), H8 (with ABS & Airbag option) and the fully loaded feature packed H9 version which includes several features like Voice Command Technology (VCT), Cruise Control, Digital Drive Assist System, etc.

All these additional features are offered without any increase in the price (as compared to outgoing E series). Xylo also offers 3 years/1,00,000kms warranty. Most importantly, the Xylo offers 2 engine options – powerful 120 PS mHawk engine and the fuel efficient mDI CRDe engine – which lends more power to the vehicle and these power output figures unmatched by others in the MPV category.

Mahindra launches new H series Xylo, with mHawk engine

Mahindra's Xylo people mover will now be available with a 118 BHP mHawk engine with 280 NM of Torque. The new variant will start from Rs 8.23 Lakh (ex showroom Mumbai, BSIV variant). The H series will replace the existing E series and comes with a new transmission as well. Despite the new engine, Mahindra has decided to keep the price unchanged.

3 Variants will be on offer:
  • H4 (with ABS as an option).
  • H8 (with ABS and Airbags as an option).
  • H9 which comes with Cruise control and what Mahindra calls Voice Command Technology (VCT) and Digital Drive Assist System.

A new colour, Dolphin Greywill be available (H8 & H9 only). The new engine option makes the Xylo much better to drive with better performance and NVH along with improved shift quality.

Since its launch in 2009, more than 1.25 Lakh Xylo's have been sold. Mahindra will be hoping that the new H series can pull in better numbers as Xylo sales have have been languishing around the 1800 - 2000 units per month (on an average). The launch of Chevrolet's Enjoy which has been competitively prices means that Mahindra now has a fight on its hands.

Whoa! Shocks me. I just bought my Xylo E8 with mEagle, four months back.. and now mEagle is discontinued.

On the other side, if Scorpio's mHawk gets into Xylo, does that mean Scorpio is going to get some engine upgrade?

Its surprising that Mahindra decided to discontinue the mEagle engine - rather than the mDi one. Any idea why they decided to do so? As far as I know, the mEagle Xylo was the most popular selling option in the entire range.

Maybe because MDi is still being sold in BS3 markets and hence cheaper and has much better FE which attracts taxi buyers.

They simply need to give more for the same price which is already lesser than the Innova. Now the Ertiga and Enjoy too have joined the options in the segment. They need to deliver even better value.

Frankly though most people seemed more concerned about the ride quality and stability along with the interior fixture quality than with the engine which was already quite fine. In any case a +ve move for sure.

Re: Mahindra Launches new H series Xylo, with M-Hawk Engines. M-Eagle discontinued.

This move must be a rationalization exercise to build economies of scale and lower their production costs. With nearly 10,000 units sold in terms of XUV, Scorpio and now Xylo, it makes it easy to produce a single family of motor.

Wonder why they launched a different MEagle line of motors in the first place

Though the engines are the least of the worries in a Xylo, the boat like handling seems to have been left unaltered and if so this would be one of the top negatives that go against this spacious MUV.

Spot on, Girish!

M&M has mastered the engine & VFM side of story in their long journey as of now.

High time they should concentrate on design, dynamics, quality driven components and service back up.

Then they have a huge success waiting for them in India.

Re: Mahindra Launches new H series Xylo, with M-Hawk Engines. M-Eagle discontinued.

I think its time for an official road test drive of the Xylo H. With a new engine and transmission, its effectively a new car (even if its not in a new body). I saw an ad today about a Rs.10k EMI scheme. Smart!!! That hits the affordability point very sweetly to tempt a whole mass of consumers I think.

I request Anant Cars @ BG Road B'lore to give me a test drive on H8. But they came with E9 and told that they are yet to get a test drive vehicle and assured me that they will inform as soon as they got it.

Re: Mahindra Launches new H series Xylo, with M-Hawk Engines. M-Eagle discontinued.

Have just finished 200 odd kms on the H9. The suspension has definitely improved. does not jostle about as much as the E series. M&M say they have tweaked the engine for a peppier ride. I don't have enough of E series experience to tell the difference on this one.

All in all a great package.

Will be doing to runs to Mumbai next week so will add to this thread after then.
