Celebrates 10th Foundation Day -

Chennai, May 17: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest automobile manufacturer, which has completed a decade in the country, celebrated its 10th Foundation Day today.

Having started operations in 1996, HMIL has an illustrious history in India. HMIL emerged as the second largest automobile manufacturer in the country in just 6 months after it began its production and rolled out its 100,000th car from its Chennai plant within just 19 months of commencement of operations. The company is also credited with the unique distinction of rolling out the fastest one-millionth car in March this year.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr H.S. Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL said: “The span of ten years has witnessed a series of milestones achieved by the company, making HMIL not only the second largest but also the fastest growing car manufacturer in India in such a short span of time.”

The company has emerged as the largest automobile exporter in the country. Last year HMIL has exported over 1,00,000 vehicles to around 60 countries and has achieved the record breaking sales of over 30,000 units in the month of March 2006.

“Over the years, our offerings have received very favorable responses in the Indian market, consistently winning several automobile awards and accolades. The continuous support and faith of our customers has enabled HMIL to market best-selling cars in all segments in the industry,” Mr. Lheem added.

With growing sales and new launches in the pipeline, Mr. Lheem commented, “While our dominance across segments is a reflection of the consumer confidence we enjoy; it has been an endeavor at Hyundai Motor India to actively invest in society.”

HMIL has chartered the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) with the objective of addressing the expectations of society and initiating concrete steps towards extending support in the fields of Health Care, Educational and Vocational training, Environment, Road Safety, Art, Science and Technology, Natural Calamity and Heritage re-building. This project is solely funded by HMIL.

As its first initiative, HMIF has undertaken to renovate the Senate House, which is a 150-year-old heritage building of the University of Madras. The foundation has also donated a Hyundai Accent to Care Foundation, a non-profit Society engaged in providing Health Care to people from economically weaker sections and those living in rural areas.

Hyundai is committed to road-safety, and undertakes myriad initiatives ranging from creating awareness to help implement road discipline, besides producing cars that conform to the highest safety standards to make the Indian roads safer. Hyundai Motor India, in association with the Institute of Road Traffic Education and Delhi Traffic Police, launched an innovative road safety program called "Hyundai Traffic Squad", a Student Traffic Volunteers Scholarship Scheme to create road safety awareness and support Delhi Traffic Police in improving Traffic Management System in Delhi.

“HMIL is committed towards collective excellence, and the Hyundai Motor India Foundation will play a pivotal role in further enhancing public charitable initiatives towards fundamental societal needs. An amount of Rs.100/- out of every domestic car sale will add up to the funds of Hyundai Motor India Foundation,” said Mr. Lheem.

Congrats,on completing 10 years.:Cheering:

Congratulations on completing 10 very eventful years. Though the last 4 have been a slump compared to the start, I know Hyundai has more than a few tricks up its sleeve for the next decade.

Job well done

GTO

P.S. I dont really remember any Hyundai "special occasion" cars. That award goes to Ford and GM who seem to celebrate every single day.

Great; not for nothing is Hyundai India's third ranked automotive manufacturer, eh? Way to go. From the aims that Hyundai have in it's sights, the day isn't far when it vies for the top. Now, how about some NFSU2 Special Edition Tuscanis/Tiburons, Santa Fe's, and those Embera diesels to fill up the coffers and whet our appetites, yes....

Congrats Hyundai. Hoping for more success in the coming years (and less crappy ads and less lies about things)

Hoep hyundai is celebrating the 10 year thing with some freebies for US hyundai customers lol

Well deserved congratulations to Hyundai - for entering the market as a relative unknown and firmly establishing themselves.

Congrats Hyundai... Hope we will see more quality cars from them and less crap ads...

A very early newsitem when Hyundai's finally decided to take a plunge in India

Congratulations Hyundai.

They really had 10 succussful years in India. I see Hyundai as the only one manufacturer who posed a real threat to the Maruti's dominance in India. It is Hyundai which forced Maruti to introduce more modern and better cars to the Indian market.

I couldn't possibly agree more with you on this. In fact, Hyundai is "Arguably" the Brand that Launched 'Affordable Premium Family Cars' per se in India. clap:

Till Date, Not Many Can match Hyundai Cars Creature Comforts.

Thanks. It is the result of sitting late night :D.

They have got the pulse of the average Indian buyer. Give her (and him) the best interiors in the class, and laugh all the way to the bank. Cutting edge technology be damned, a good conservative middle of the road design is what you get.

isn't the thread popping up now with the current title a bit confusing?

Probably an edit with years marked along side, say something like;
Hyundai completes 10 years (1996 - 2006) in India!
