Very true. But I am afraid it doesnot share the same fate as the most succesful alto's twodoor version. Hope you remember it. Here in Orissa, I reckon there would be not more than three of them. Conservative Indian ideology. But if aksed , I would certainly LOVE to go for one of these.

This car is Punto's sibling as they were designed together during the GM/FIAT alliance. If you look closely you will find how the A pillar and rest of the car is similar to Punto

Which is why I will never buy a new GM car in India ever again. I have lots of pre 1970 GM cars. We also had an OPEL Astra Club and GM unilaterally withdrew service support before 10 years were up. GM takes us for granted. The Astra launched was crappy, uprated with MPFI engine when competition came in.

No, the car must belong to GM, and therefore MH 14 registered. Bosch does development work for GM, GM has to provide the vehicle.

Looks i20'ish from rear.

No worries guys, no more Daewoo or Opel for India. Even if its planned for future in India it will be a Chevy branded car. My cousin used to work for GM in middle east and has confirmed Opel as a brand is withdrawn from their market almost immediately after the Vectra.

I am more sad about Saab Automobile than Opel as a brand

Just now spotted it on Old Madras road. They were in no hurry and was driven very slowly.
When asked they said they are testing the car. Did not disclose Bosch or GM. Guy sitting on the passenger had a laptop.

They do a lot of product and component validation there, one normally does not see too many test cars except new cars for india being tested.

Got a shot of the interiors. It looks too cheap ! Hope the production vehicle might have better center console. This was tagged as a 'Test Vehicle.'

Dont think GM & Co. is planning to re-launch the Opel brand again. It will take too much of brand re-building to drive the imagery / ghosts of "expensive" Opel cars & their maintainance out of the psyche of potential Indian car buyers. An increasing number of OEM's are now using India as a part of their durability / endurance test cycles and GM is one of them.

Bangalore is home to one of GM's biggest R&D units. Also a host of Tier-1 component makers, such as Bosch, Continental et al are housed in and around Bangalore.

So it is very likely that the vehicle is a "test & validation mule". As you can see the car carries a "MH-14-xxxx" trade plate - which i believe denotes Pimpri-Chinchwad region. So, all fair chances that GM Talegaon plant has imported the vehicle and sent it to the Southern city for some tests.
