Team-BHP - New segment

Gentleladies and Men,

With the intended release of the new Fiat Grande Punto in India by mid-late 2007 (assuming Fiat is still there in India by then:eek: ) , we enter into another yet unbeknownst segment - the 6.5-7.5 lacs super hatch segment (B++ or C- ?!)

I'd think that this would be one of the most redundant/impractical segments. Any thoughts abt these new segments of cars?

Atleast they should have new segments of bikes - Harleys, Ducatis etc. :)

The inaugaration of the super hatch segment wont be done by the Punto but by the Optra SRV which is going to be launched within 4 months time.

Fusion also touches the super hatch category. When they shorten it by 18mm abd out in a diesel, its going to be the first large selling super hatch. Who knows it may come sonner than the Optra

They have to be lot more than a premium superhatch to justify the price.

I mean who wants a hatch at that price. We can always have a good sedan.

@tsk1979 do you really think the fusion is going to sell like hot cakes with a diesel??? Cummon, at that price people are alwayas going to get a sedan shape rather than hatch. Just see how many petrol cars are sold near that 6lacks bracket and you will understand.

Yeah positioning is everything if it can be posinioned more as a MPV ready to tackle rough roads they may have a chance. But a hatch??? A sure shot reciepe for failure.
